Eel rice bowl for one after wedding consulting in Yeoksam: Chisot

In short

Chisot Yeoksam Main Branch is a Nagoya-style hitsumabushi (grilled freshwater eel rice bowl) restaurant a one-minute walk from Yeoksam Station in Gangnam, Seoul. After two and a half hours of wedding consulting nearby, I arrived hungry and dined alone on the hitsumabushi mini, eating it three ways: plain over the seasoned rice, with wasabi and chopped scallion, and as ochazuke, which is refilled free from the self-serve bar. I poured a second round of my favorite combination and would return to Chisot Yeoksam Main Branch 100%.

Chisot Yeoksam Main Branch, one minute on foot from Yeoksam Station

After two and a half hours of wedding consulting nearby, I got so hungry that I ended up walking one minute to a Yeoksam Station favorite — a Japanese restaurant called Chisot!

What is Chisot Yeoksam Main Branch? A hitsumabushi specialist one minute from Yeoksam Station

It said something like "a bite that makes your energy soar, soaring over the charcoal fire" — and after such a busy day, that soaring energy sounded perfect for me. Let's go~!

I genuinely love hitsumabushi, TT it's been a while since I had it, so I went out to eat it again after a long time! For reference, hitsumabushi is an authentic Nagoya-style grilled freshwater eel rice bowl, okay~

Seating at Chisot Yeoksam: solo tables, 2-tops, 4-tops and a 6-seat table

Inside Chisot Yeoksam Main Branch there were table seats great for eating alone, plus 2-tops and 4-tops good for couples. Lots of office workers from around Yeoksam Station seemed to come here — I saw groups that clearly had that small-team-dinner vibe!

There were also reserved seats for people who booked ahead. And I spotted fellow solo diners like me~ The area just behind the door is a 6-person table, so it looked like that's where people have mini team dinners! Hope all the office workers' energy soars after their eel rice bowls~

Chisot Yeoksam Main Branch also has a lunch menu available only on weekday lunchtimes! I really wanted to order the salmon sashimi unagi bento, but unfortunately I visited in the evening, so I'll try it next time during lunch hours, noted!

Oh, and this place is also known for salmon — the salmon side menu looked pretty good too! A nice bonus is that you can get it through review events~

I ordered the hitsumabushi full set! You can choose the size from mini / regular / deluxe~ I'm not a big eater, so I went with the hitsumabushi mini!

The water was so good too haha — it wasn't plain water but tea, so I was happy happy. On the table were ochazuke furikake, sansho pepper, and toothpicks set out by default — the ochazuke furikake tasted even better when mixed into my ochazuke later~

Ah, it was genuinely so good TTTT looking at these photos is making me drool TTTT as I write this post right now — it's evening but I still haven't eaten dinner, argh I'm so hungry haha, I want to eat hitsumabushi again...!

Ta-da, open the lid and the eel appears ta-da — the rice already came seasoned, so it was delicious to eat just like that! The bowl on the far right is for portioning some out.

Miso soup and pudding-soft Japanese egg custard with the set

The Chisot Yeoksam Main Branch hitsumabushi set also came with miso soup, and a completely fluffy Japanese-style egg custard that I devoured in seconds. This kind of egg custard is softer than the Korean (?) version, and I liked that better haha. There was a cute little shrimp sitting on top too! I want to eat that pudding-soft custard again.

Three ways to eat hitsumabushi and unlimited ochazuke refills

Side dishes plus sauces and ingredients for eating hitsumabushi in different ways! Having eaten quite a bit of hitsumabushi, my favorite combo is pouring on ochazuke! But it's still fun to try all three ways, so I always end up eating it three ways haha.

  • Way 1) Eat the rice as seasoned, with the eel, just as served
  • Way 2) Mix in wasabi, scallion, and extra seaweed
  • Way 3) Pour in ochazuke and eat it warm, like a rice soup!

What goes in here is the ochazuke! Unlimited refills are self-serve at the self bar, so since ochazuke is my favorite combo, I refilled and poured it again~ whoosh~ By the way, the kettle(?) shape is so gorgeous too haha, the kind of look that makes me want to buy a teacup and kettle at home and brew tea >_<

The eel just melts in your mouth. This combo is delicious too. Delicious eaten plain too.

Would I go back to Chisot Yeoksam Main Branch?

After eating at Chisot, I took that soaring energy and got through an incredible day! Went to work, had wedding consulting, ate dinner, and even went to a PT session afterward — go me~ Give myself a pat on the back! Thank you Chisot for the energy haha.

If you're looking for a good Japanese restaurant near Yeoksam Station, check out Chisot Yeoksam — 100% would visit again. If I'm ever near Yeoksam Station, I'll come eat here again~
