Suwon grilled croaker and mackerel pike set: Godeungeo Myeongpumi

A Suwon grilled fish spot where even the side dishes are delicious, and you can enjoy grilled fish and sashimi at the same time.

Every time I passed by, the sign for this Suwon grilled fish restaurant, Godeungeo Myeongpumi Doeda, really caught my eye, so I finally stopped in.

Grilled fish is one of my parents' favorite things to eat out. It's healthy and delicious, but hard to cook often at home because of the smell, so eating out is perfect for it.

Where is Godeungeo Myeongpumi Doeda Suwon Branch, and is there parking?

Godeungeo Myeongpumi Doeda Suwon Branch is on the 1st floor at 1731 Seobu-ro, Gwonseon-gu, Suwon-si, Gyeonggi-do. The sign is visible from far away.

There's a generous parking lot both in front of and beside the restaurant.

Even though it's a popular spot with a wait, parking spaces were available, so we didn't have to wait for that.

16 parties ahead but a 10-minute wait: the waiting area at Godeungeo Myeongpumi Doeda

Sure enough, there was a wait as soon as we walked in. 16 parties were ahead of us, but the wait was only 10 minutes. The restaurant is huge with lots of tables, so it turns over quickly. To the left of the entrance, they've set up a nice cafeteria-style waiting area.

There are two coffee machines to drink from while you wait after your meal too. Both americano and mix coffee are available.

It's all just great fish here.

There's also red gochujang bulgogi, braised mackerel, and braised cutlassfish.

It's great that a grilled fish restaurant also serves sashimi. It's currently croaker season, so croaker is on the menu — it's even better as sashimi. Dad and I love sashimi, but Mom isn't a fan, so we decided to just get grilled fish today.

The set menu was ₩3,000 off at the time. We waited about 10 minutes before being seated. At the entrance, the counter hands out water bottles matching your party size.

The restaurant is huge and the tables are spaced far apart. Even at full capacity, it doesn't feel loud or crowded.

The 7 basic side dishes and the self-serve bar

The basic side dishes get set out the moment you sit down — fast service even when the place is full.

Seven side dishes plus seaweed soup — you could eat a whole bowl of rice happily on this alone. I went to check the self-serve bar for anything not already on the table.

On the way to the self-serve bar, there's a microwave for warming baby food and baby chairs ready for little ones.

The self-serve bar is in the center, separated so it doesn't disturb other tables.

Japchae (stir-fried glass noodles) and seasoned radish were already on the table, so I skipped those.

There were also seasoned greens and doraji (bellflower root) salad on the table, so I passed on those too.

There was no fresh kimchi on the table, so I grabbed some.

The cheongpomuk (mung bean jelly) salad and cucumber salad were so good I went back for seconds. My top pick among the side dishes was the cucumber salad — so crunchy and tangy-sweet, I kept reaching for more.

The seaweed soup was also delicious, so I got a second helping. It's lightly salty and refreshing. I grabbed some sungnyung (scorched rice tea) too, to have alongside the grilled fish.

Utensils, ginger, ssamjang, and rakkyo were all set out too.

If the water bottles they hand out aren't enough, there's a water purifier. There's also sikhye (sweet rice drink) for dessert.

A table for three: grilled croaker, imyeonsu sole and mackerel pike

After checking out the self-serve bar, our grilled fish came out right away. We ordered special grilled croaker, grilled imyeonsu sole, and grilled mackerel pike. The sole and mackerel pike look small next to the special croaker — but that's just because the croaker is huge. The sole and mackerel pike are actually big too.

Everything came out grilled to a nice golden brown. I'd been happily tasting side dish after side dish, but once the grilled fish arrived, my chopsticks went straight for it.

There's a small dish of soy sauce and fresh wasabi soy sauce set beside the table.

They give you this to dip the fish in.

Is Godeungeo Myeongpumi Doeda worth it for a meal with parents?

The fish was clean-tasting and so delicious. I paired mine with the cucumber salad, and it went perfectly. Mom couldn't even finish a spoonful of rice — the portions of grilled fish were that generous. She said she could leave rice behind but not the fish, and picked it clean to the last bite. My parents were so happy and satisfied that it made for a really pleasant meal. I think I'll have to come back with just my dad next time for the sashimi. I'd recommend this as a great restaurant to visit with your parents.
