Seongsu Korean BBQ with tteokbokki at the self-bar: Marblejeong

In short

Marblejeong is a 1++ Korean beef grill restaurant in Seongsu, Seoul, a two-minute walk from Ttukseom Station. Two diners came for lunch and ordered the mixed grill at the 20% lunch discount with a bowl of rice, then grilled the sirloin, beef belly and brisket themselves instead of using the table-side grilling service, with tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes), japchae (glass noodles) and lettuce wraps from the self-bar. Marblejeong is an easy recommendation when you want Korean beef in Seongsu.

The weather was so nice that day that we headed out to Seongsu in the afternoon for the first time in a while. Looking for something delicious to eat, we searched around for Seongsu restaurants and found a place selling 1++ Korean beef, hand-trimmed and strictly quality-controlled by a meat specialist, with a 20% lunch discount on the mixed grill. So off we went.

Where is Marblejeong, and how far is it from Ttukseom Station?

Marblejeong is on the 2nd floor at 57 Seongsu-il-ro, Seongdong-gu, Seoul, South Korea — just a 2-minute walk from Ttukseom Station, so the location was great. Hours are listed as Mon-Sun 11:00am-24:00pm and Sat-Sun 11:00am-23:00pm, and there's a restroom too.

We came by subway, but if you're driving, there's a parking lot on site so you don't have to worry about that.

After coming through the entrance, we headed up to the second floor.

For reference, the menu is also posted outside so you can check it beforehand.

They were also selling Chuseok (Korean thanksgiving) gift sets.

And apparently plenty of celebrities have visited, which only raised our expectations.

Inside Marblejeong: the dining room and private rooms

We walked in feeling excited, and right away we could see the 1++ Korean beef and wine-aged pork belly aging on display.

There was also a spacious hall seating area.

There were private rooms too, which looked great for group gatherings or work dinners.

There was also a country-of-origin display board, so we could eat with confidence.

Marblejeong's menu: courses, a la carte cuts and lunch sets

A staff member showed us to our seats and we looked over the menu. The 1++ Korean beef courses included Special VVIP, VIP, A, and B.

The 1++ Korean beef mixed grill came in 1kg, 900g, 600g, or 400g options. As you can see, since we visited at lunch, ours came at a 20% discount.

For à la carte, there was a wide range of specialty cuts: sirloin, eye of sirloin, shrimp cut, striploin cap, tenderloin, strip loin, rib finger, brisket point, beef belly (chadolbagi), tongue tip, skirt, and hanger steak.

For Korean pork, there was wine-aged pork belly, pork belly, pork shoulder, pork jowl (hangjeongsal), pork skirt (galmaegisal), and pork rib finger (gabrisal). This place is apparently known for its wine-aged pork belly, made with premium, juicy Korean pork infused with red wine flavor using their own method — and especially popular is a value-for-money set that includes pork belly, pork shoulder, and specialty pork cuts served as a full spread with steamed egg and doenjang stew.

Popular office-worker lunch sets included Korean pork soy sauce bulgogi set, spicy stir-fried pork set, pork belly set, bulgogi set, and LA galbi set.

There was also beef short rib soup (regular or premium), abalone beef short rib soup, abalone octopus short rib soup, Korean beef brisket soup, abalone porridge, and brisket doenjang stew. On top of that, 1++ Korean beef seaweed soup, abalone seaweed soup, raw beef bibimbap, and grilled beef slices with cold noodles.

There were also Hamhung-style cold noodles, pollock cold noodles, grilled beef cold noodles, and raw beef cold seafood soup.

So many à la carte dishes and sides on top of that.

What's at Marblejeong's self-bar: tteokbokki, japchae and more

After weighing our options, we ordered the 20% discounted 1++ Korean beef mixed grill with rice. Once we ordered, we noticed there was a self-bar, so we grabbed some tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes), japchae (glass noodle stir-fry), kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi), kimchi, lettuce wraps, and more.

We snacked on those while waiting for the meat to arrive.

They also set out the basic side dishes that come with the meat order.

Finally the main meat arrived. Doesn't it look incredible just looking at it? I wanted to dig in right away.

Having a full spread laid out like this made us so happy.

They actually offer a grilling service here, but we told them we'd rather grill it ourselves so we could chat slowly over the meal. So they started us off with the sirloin first.

We shot a video so you can see the whole process in detail, if you're curious.

They put potatoes on the grill along with the meat.

Once it was cooked to perfection, they cut it into nice bite-sized pieces for us.

Sirloin first, dipped in soy sauce

We tried it dipped in soy sauce sauce first. The meat was so tender and delicious. Definitely a top Seongsu restaurant.

We also tried it with basil pesto sauce, and it went really well with wild chive leaves too.

Wrapping it in lettuce with various sauces made eating even more fun.

Beef belly: the fatty cut that stole the meal

As we were wrapping up, they put brisket point on the grill along with mushrooms, asparagus, and garlic.

We tried the brisket point first — that rich, fatty flavor was truly a work of art.

It also paired really well with mustard leaf kimchi.

We kept wrapping it in lettuce and eating more and more.

And the salad and seasoned lettuce that came with it were such a great combination too.

Brisket: a nutty, savory finish

Last up was the beef belly (chadolbagi). They grilled it to a nice golden brown.

Excitedly, we took a big bite — it was so savory and delicious.

It was already delicious plain, but dipped in sauce it was even better. The two of us got so into it that we polished off the whole thing in no time.

Is Marblejeong worth it for Korean beef in Seongsu?

As we paid and headed out, they even gave us a little snack, so we got a perfect dessert too. If you're looking for a great restaurant in Seongsu or craving delicious meat, I'd recommend giving this place a visit.
