A Western-style brunch spot in the Suwan district Bueokgan

What kind of restaurant is Bueokgan Suwan Branch?
Gwangju's Suwan district has everything from stylish cafés to great restaurants, so it's a go-to area whenever I'm setting up a meal. This time I went to Bueokgan Suwan Branch for pasta, pizza, and other Western dishes. It felt like a solid brunch spot.
The dishes we ordered that day were sweet potato fries, carbonara, and an arugula prosciutto pizza. We picked a mix of styles — a crispy side, a creamy pasta, and a pizza topped with arugula and prosciutto — and the combination turned out great. Rather than ordering just one dish, putting several in the middle and sharing them let us taste a wider variety.

If you like familiar Western dishes like pasta and pizza, this is an easy place to visit. Whether you want a leisurely brunch or you're craving Western food in the Suwan district, here's my review of Bueokgan Suwan Branch, centered on what we ordered.

3/ Menu and prices at Bueokgan Suwan Branch

This is the menu at Bueokgan, a brunch restaurant in the Suwan district. We ordered sweet potato fries, carbonara, and the arugula prosciutto pizza.

Almost everything came out at once. My favorite kind of timing!
4/ Sweet potato fries with yogurt sauce

The sweet potato fries came out with a generous, appetizing sprinkle of cheese.

They came with yogurt sauce and ketchup. Dipping the crispy sweet potato fries into the yogurt sauce was really delicious.
5/ Arugula prosciutto pizza

The visuals on this arugula prosciutto pizza aren't messing around, right?

The chewy yet clean-tasting dough, topped with fresh arugula and savory prosciutto, was absolutely unbeatable.
6/ Carbonara with a poached egg

This is the carbonara topped with a beautifully poached egg. The thick bacon and mushrooms came together really well.

You have no idea how good it gets once you pop the poached egg and mix it all together!
Wrapping up: sharing three dishes at Bueokgan Suwan Branch
On this visit to Bueokgan Suwan Branch, we ordered three dishes: sweet potato fries, carbonara, and arugula prosciutto pizza. Each dish had a distinct flavor and texture, making it a great lineup for a group to order a variety and share.
The sweet potato fries were crispy and sweet, a nice light way to start the meal, while the carbonara's creamy, savory flavor made it a satisfying main. Adding the arugula prosciutto pizza on top brought the fragrance of arugula and the salty richness of prosciutto, and it was fun to switch between all three dishes.
Being able to enjoy pasta and pizza together in one sitting makes this a great place to visit whenever you're craving Western food. It also works well for a relaxed lunchtime brunch, a meal with friends, or a date spot. If you're in Gwangju craving pasta or pizza, or looking for a brunch restaurant in the Suwan district, give it a try!
