Where is Kkankkanhan Jokbal Yongbong Branch in Yongbong-dong, Gwangju?
I was trying to figure out what to eat for dinner when I suddenly craved jokbal (braised pork trotters), so I headed to Kkankkanhan Jokbal, famous as a Yongbong-dong favorite! Kkanjok is a brand that claims the #1 spot in jokbal sales nationwide — they boil the jokbal fresh every morning and stick to a same-day-sale principle, so the flavor really stands out. They have branches all over Gwangju, and since it's so consistently good, it's an easy place to trust.
It's great for dining in the hall, and takeout and delivery are also convenient, so I use it often — and today's spot was the Yongbong-dong favorite, Kkankkanhan Jokbal. Located across from the Starbucks at Jeoncheolu intersection, the Yongbong-dong branch has a spacious, comfortable dining room that made the meal really pleasant, and the staff were so friendly that the jokbal I hadn't had in a while tasted even better?!

This Yongbong-dong favorite doesn't just sell jokbal — you can also enjoy bossam (boiled pork wraps), so there's the fun of picking whatever suits your taste that day.

There's no dedicated parking lot, but the back alley is roomy so I always park there. Walking in, I saw a certificate designating it a Gwangju must-visit restaurant and a notice saying leftover food is never recycled — that made me trust this Yongbong-dong jokbal spot even more.

Open through the Chuseok holiday, with group tables and screens
Kkankkanhan Jokbal Yongbong Branch stays open through the Chuseok holiday too, so it's a good spot to build memories with family or friends, and just as easy to order delivery or takeout and enjoy it at home.
The dining room is spacious and comfortable with plenty of group seating, so it's great for gatherings. When you order, they give you a soup as standard, and it's so good it practically calls for a drink. This was the perfect Yongbong-dong spot for a drink.

Screens are set up on both sides of the dining room, so it's also a great Yongbong-dong bar to watch a baseball game together while eating delicious jokbal and bossam.

Dining room opens at 4 pm: walking in at 4:30
The dining room operates from 4 pm, and takeout and delivery are available from 11:30 am. I went in around 4:30, right after opening, wanting an early dinner, and family gatherings kept coming in right behind us. Delivery looked busy too at this Yongbong-dong jokbal favorite.
Kkankkanhan Jokbal boils the jokbal fresh every morning and grills it once more over Jirisan charcoal, which gives it that lovely subtle fragrance, apparently. Made with strict principles — even the name means 'meticulous jokbal' — so you can't help but trust it, right?!
There's a wide variety of jokbal and bossam menu items, and the set combinations are well put together too. Beyond the main dishes there are plenty of other options like clam soup, handmade fish cake soup, makguksu (buckwheat noodles), rice balls, and good drinking snacks.

There's a phone charger set up too, so you don't need to worry about your battery.

Kkankkanhan Jokbal menu and the receipt review freebie
Besides the signature charcoal-grilled jokbal, Kkankkanhan Jokbal also sells fire-grilled spicy jokbal, Goheung raw garlic jokbal, flower salad jokbal, old-style royal jokbal, charcoal-grilled bossam, and fire-grilled spicy bossam — so there's a wide range to choose from.
There's a good variety of dishes even for people who don't usually enjoy jokbal, so it's a great Yongbong-dong spot to dine with both kids and grandparents.

Leave a receipt review and you get to choose one of a rice ball, charcoal-grilled tail, or mini jokbal — no reason not to?!

New menu items keep coming out too, like the sammi-bossam that lets you taste pork belly, pork neck, and skirt meat all at once.

What comes with the 42,000 won medium charcoal-grilled jokbal
Charcoal-grilled jokbal is my favorite item on the Kkanjok menu, so that's what I ordered. Charcoal-grilled jokbal (medium), 42.0[thousand won].

The side dishes were well done and the main dish was excellent too — I ate really well for once and left completely satisfied.
The jokbal was glossy and glistening, and with the free odengtang and steamed egg plus the tasty black sesame sauce cabbage salad, the whole spread was hearty and delicious — I dug right in.
It's tidy and clean, which I appreciate, and the salted seafood and sauces to go alongside were all set up right away, so all I had to do was eat.

Even a simple glass of water wasn't left to chance here — they served roasted tea instead, and I could feel the care behind it in both taste and thoughtfulness.
The fattier cuts and the leaner meat are separated so they're easy to eat, and even though it's charcoal-grilled, the jokbal still glistens with that glossy shine.

How the charcoal-grilled jokbal tastes: smoky or greasy?
Honestly I'm not usually a big jokbal person, but this Yongbong-dong favorite lives up to its title as the #1 jokbal seller in the country — it's so good that this is the only jokbal I end up eating in Gwangju. It's a great menu to order comfortably by delivery or takeout too.

The charcoal aroma gives it a subtle smoky flavor that's incomparable, and it's not dry or greasy at all — moist and really delicious. You can tell right away, just by eating it, that they're not kidding about picking ingredients meticulously and boiling and grilling with strict principles. Fire-grilled, so nothing but good!

Jokbal often gets that heavy, greasy feeling, but Kkanjok's jokbal is boiled and grilled well with fresh ingredients, so there's no off smell at all and no greasiness — it's clean-tasting and nutty.
I even dipped it carefully into the salted shrimp I rarely bother with, to bring out the savoriness — properly had my food-diary moment.
The tender lean meat wasn't dry either, so you could really taste the juices — delicious.
There's a variety of side dishes and sauces to go with it, so there's fun in mixing it up. Pairing it with the pickled radish and radish salad makes it even better! Clean-tasting, always delicious no matter when you eat it — the Yongbong-dong jokbal favorite 'Kkankkanhan Jokbal.'

The odengtang that comes free with every order
Even the complimentary odengtang (fish cake soup) at Kkanjok isn't ordinary — it's spicy and sharp with real depth of broth flavor, practically calling for a drink. The fish cake comes portioned per person, and it was really tasty.
This spicy broth is genuinely delicious! An addictive odengtang that makes you want to pick up the bowl and drink straight from it.
3,000 won off takeout ordered at the restaurant
Kkankkanhan Jokbal gives you a ₩3,000 discount when you order takeout in person at the store, which makes it great value and easy to enjoy comfortably at home too.

With the upcoming Chuseok holiday gatherings, I'd recommend Yongbong-dong favorite 'Kkankkanhan Jokbal' as a great place to build precious memories and spend time over a delicious meal~!
