Not long ago, my boyfriend and I were debating what to eat on a weekday lunch when I suddenly craved something hot and rich in broth. So I searched hard for lunch spots in Buk-gu, Gwangju and ended up at Wolmidang Gwangju Chonnam National University Branch, a premium pho restaurant boasting an incredible 4.89 rating.

Parking near Chonnam National University: 1 hour free at Megabox

One of the best things was the parking! Parking around Chonnam National University and Buk-gu is usually a nightmare, but Wolmidang offers 1 hour free parking at the Megabox lot right next door. Thanks to that, we walked in without any parking stress. Also, if you sign up for Naver notifications before visiting, you get a free drink coupon too — make sure to grab that before you go! 🤍

🍜 The table had tips for enjoying the pho and bún chả at their best, so we mixed up the pickled onion sauce before the food even arrived! Seriously recommend this recipe.

How to eat the bún chả and how the flame-grilled bulgogi tastes

How to enjoy bún chả: add 1–2 spoonfuls of the bún chả sauce to the pho noodles to loosen them, then dip the vegetables and charcoal-grilled bulgogi together!

We started with the bún chả, following the instructions — added a bit of sauce, loosened the noodles, then paired them with the charcoal-grilled bulgogi and vegetables.

and I thought, 'This place really knows how to do bún chả.'

True to the six-hour simmered broth, the flavor was rich and deep.

Even though we ate ourselves full together, everything felt clean and refreshing, without any heavy or bloated feeling afterward 🤍 True to its 'premium pho' title, the broth, the meat toppings, and the bún chả were all spot-on.. ✨ If you're looking for a lunch spot in Buk-gu, Gwangju that's satisfying but easy on the stomach, definitely give Wolmidang Gwangju Chonnam National University Branch a visit. I'll definitely be back again and again!
