Beer bar in Suji, Yongin for old-school fried chicken: Gorae Byeoljang
In short
Gorae Byeoljang Suji Branch is a Korean anju (drinking food) bar on the first floor of Seohee Star Hills, right next to Seongbok Stream in Suji, Yongin. The order was Response Chicken at 18,000 won, Jeonju-style pork yukjeon (pan-fried battered pork) at 14,000 won and sundubu-yeolramyeon (spicy soft tofu ramyeon) with Terra and Kelly draft beer, plus free refills of butter popcorn from the self-serve bar. For crispy-outside, juicy-inside old-school fried chicken, Gorae Byeoljang is arguably the top choice in Seongbok-dong.

I went to Gorae Byeoljang Suji Branch, right by Seongbok Stream in Suji, where the anju (Korean drinking food) and draft beer are so good that even locals line up for it in the evening. Seriously, every single side dish is amazing... this is the best fried chicken in Suji. Crispy outside, juicy inside — it's the definition of old-school chicken. Add in the savory pan-fried yukjeon (pan-seared meat slices) and spicy scallion salad, plus draft beer going down easy, and it's a fantastic combo. Genuinely so~~~ good. If you're craving chicken and beer, you have to go. Better than the chicken places in Suwon's famous chicken alley.

Where is Gorae Byeoljang Suji Branch? Hours and parking
Gorae Byeoljang Suji Branch is on the 1st floor, Unit 103, of Seohee Star Hills in Seongbok-dong, Suji, Yongin. It's open daily from 5:00 PM to 2:00 AM (until midnight on Sundays), and you can park for free at the basement level 1 commercial parking lot of Seohee Star Hills.

Gorae Byeoljang menu: Response Chicken 18,000 won, Jeonju-style pork yukjeon 14,000 won
Gorae Byeoljang's signature dish is Response Chicken at ₩18,000 — a must-order. Even while I was sitting in the restaurant, delivery orders kept coming in nonstop. The ₩14,000 Jeonju-style pork yukjeon is also so~~ good. There's a set menu that lets you get both dishes cheaper, so ordering the set is a great deal.

Inside the bar: partitioned sofa tables facing Seongbok Stream
The Gorae Byeoljang Suji Branch space is clean and comfortable, and the staff are friendly. The side seating looks like what's in the photo, and the middle of the store has partitioned sofa-style tables so you can eat more privately. Since it's right in front of Seongbok Stream, in spring and fall it feels like an outdoor drinking spot — great atmosphere for having a few drinks.

Once you order, the basic side dish of butter popcorn comes out, full of salty, savory butter flavor that keeps you reaching for more. There's a self-serve bar so you can refill it, worth noting.

Draft beer at Gorae Byeoljang: Terra and Kelly, crisp thanks to fast turnover
The draft beer came out first, and since this is a genuinely popular Seongbok-dong spot, the turnover is high, so it tastes clean and refreshing — amazing. Strong carbonation, incredible going down. Just noting that Terra and Kelly are the draft beers available.

They even served the soda in a beer glass packed with ice, so even if you can't drink alcohol, you can still enjoy the vibe.

The pickled radish was crunchy, tangy and refreshing too.

There are two dipping sauces for the chicken, and the one on the left is amazing. It's soy-sauce based with onion, garlic and chili — somewhere between soy chicken and yurinchi (crispy chicken with vinegar sauce), and dipping it every few bites cuts through the chicken's richness so you can keep enjoying it to the last bite. A magic sauce.

Sundubu-yeolramyeon: the spicy tofu ramyeon to pair with chicken
Along with the chicken, I ordered sundubu-yeolramyeon (spicy soft tofu ramyeon) right away. Chicken plus spicy soup is unbeatable.

Spicy and rich, the noodles were boiled just right, still in their square shape and chewy — perfect for the ramyeon-bite challenge that's trendy these days, the noodle texture was so good. The soft tofu was also nice and firm, and eating it with the spicy soup made it feel soft and mild, an addictive dish that kept me coming back for more.

Jeonju-style pork yukjeon, 14,000 won: wrap it with scallion salad
The Jeonju-style pork yukjeon is ₩14,000, and it's better pork yukjeon than what I had at the Jeonju night market. It's pan-fried fresh the moment you order, so it's hot, moist, savory and mild — the flavor was fantastic.

The shredded scallions that come with it are dressed with a spicy sauce and cheongyang chili, and wrapping the yukjeon with the scallion salad tastes amazing.

I first ate a piece of yukjeon plain, with no sauce, and it was savory, full of juices, with no gamey smell at all — delicious even on its own.

Wrapped with the scallion salad, it's game over, so~~~ good. Definitely try it — this is a real anju restaurant of Seongbok-dong.

Response Chicken, 18,000 won: crispy outside, juicy inside old-school fried chicken
Gorae Byeoljang Suji Branch's signature Response Chicken is ₩18,000. Chicken eaten fresh right at the restaurant is love. Freshly made, crispy outside and juicy inside, full of juices — so good, the chicken itself is mild, no gamey smell and really savory.

The skin is thin and fried crispy, so the crunch is amazing ASMR. Really savory, exactly the taste of old-school market chicken. Truly the top tier among Seongbok-dong chicken restaurants, the best.

Paired with cold, fizzy draft beer, it disappeared before I knew it. Ate really well and enjoyed it a lot.
A run along Seongbok Stream, then a draft beer at Gorae Byeoljang
Recommending this Suji beer spot for its great food across the board and comfortable atmosphere. The best chicken in Seongbok-dong — make sure to try the pork yukjeon too. Running along Seongbok Stream and then having a draft beer is an amazing combo. It's also close to Lotte Mall, so recommended for anyone looking for good restaurants near Seongbok Station.
