🍺 Rather than traveling far after work, I often end up looking for somewhere near home where I can have a beer without much fuss. This time again I went to Gorae Byeoljang Suji Branch near my apartment. It's close to home so it's easy to get to, and everything from fried chicken to tteokbokki to various side dishes is reasonably priced, so I visit fairly often — here's my review.

What the mood is like at Gorae Byeoljang in Seongbok-dong
A neighborhood bar that's easy to drop into after work without much pressure.
Gorae Byeoljang Suji Branch is a cooking-pub located on the 1st floor of 80 Seongbok 1-ro, Suji-gu, Yongin. Before going in I checked out the menu board, and it was pretty packed — a variety of set menus plus fried chicken, tteokbokki, soups, and simple snacks.
It's a nice spot to swing by for a casual second round or a low-pressure drink with friends, price-wise. But the biggest advantage was definitely that it's within walking distance from home.

How ordering works: the table-order tablet
At Gorae Byeoljang Suji Branch you order through a table-order tablet. I've come to prefer places with table-order these days — it's really convenient. You can see photos of the menu items, which makes choosing easy, and you don't have to flag down staff.

The fried chicken: crispy and made for beer
Crispy outside, juicy inside — the kind of chicken you can't stop reaching for.
The fried chicken I ordered that day at Gorae Byeoljang Suji Branch had a coating that wasn't too thick and fried up nice and crispy, which I really liked. The first bite had a satisfying crunch, and the inside was juicy, pairing perfectly with beer.
It was tasty dipped in sauce, and just as good eaten plain since the seasoning was well balanced — easy to enjoy without feeling heavy. There's clearly a reason it's a popular chicken spot in Seongbok-dong.

Spicy tteokbokki with fried sundae
Spicy tteokbokki with sundae — the best combo.
The tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes) at Gorae Byeoljang Suji Branch was the saucy, generous-broth style, and the rice cakes were chewy and delicious. It also came with fried sundae (blood sausage) mixed in, adding textural variety, and the spice level wasn't overwhelming, making it a great pairing for drinks.
Ordered alongside the chicken, the portion was pretty generous for two people to share.

Fresh-fried shrimp chips are worth adding
The shrimp chips came out freshly fried and tasted really good. They were nicely salty, perfect for picking at one by one as a beer snack, and they went well with the other dishes too.

Ice-cold draft beer to go with it
Snacks like these definitely need a cold draft beer to go with them.
With a glass of ice-flecked, ice-cold draft beer, all the fatigue from the day just melted away. It was a great vibe for a simple drink with friends after work.

Popcorn as the free bar snack
Gorae Byeoljang Suji Branch serves popcorn as a complimentary side, and I liked that. It's easy to eat bite by bite, pairs well with beer, and I kept reaching for it.

Why the prices keep the writer coming back
A place with low price pressure and a wide menu — high satisfaction overall.
Bar prices have gone up a lot lately, but Gorae Byeoljang Suji Branch overall wasn't a burden on the wallet. With such a wide variety of menu items, it's a good spot for a group to order a bunch of things and share, and it also works well as a second-round venue.
