Table spread of bar snacks at Gorae Byeoljang Suji Branch

This is a great spot for bar snacks in Yongin Suji, where you can enjoy everything from chicken to whelk salad, pork jeon, and sundubu yeolramyeon (spicy ramyeon with soft tofu) all in one place. Thanks to generous portions and reasonable prices, it worked well not just for drinks but for a proper meal too — let me introduce Gorae Byeoljang Suji Branch.

Why we chose Gorae Byeoljang Suji Branch, and where to park

Gorae Byeoljang Suji Branch is a bar-restaurant on Seongbok 1-ro in Suji-gu, Yongin, Gyeonggi, and parking is available at the Seohee Star Hills apartment lot. I recently went to a housewarming party and had chicken the host ordered from here — it was way better than I expected.

If it tasted this good delivered, I kept wondering how good it would be freshly fried, and eventually I ended up visiting in person. I drove over on a weekday around 6pm and parked at the Seohee Star Hills apartment lot. There was plenty of parking space, and at the time I could use it for free without registering separately.

Maybe because it was early evening, I was seated right away without waiting. The interior was clean, and since the weather was nice, they'd thoughtfully thrown the door wide open.

1) Boneless chicken 3 ways — ₩25,000

The dish I was most looking forward to at Gorae Byeoljang Suji Branch. The portion was about a chicken and a half, quite generous, and it came with pa-dak (scallion), onion, and seasoned sauces so you could enjoy three flavors at once.

The chicken itself was really crispy, and the onion sauce in particular was delicious. It had a slight yogurt taste, almost like tartar sauce, and there was so much sauce that some of the onion was left over.

2) Whelk salad with minari — ₩20,000

It came with minari (water celery), cucumber, onion, whelk, and even somyeon (thin wheat noodles), so the portion was generous. It had a slight spicy kick that kept me reaching for more, and paired well with the chicken, cutting through the greasiness.

3) Jeonju-style pork jeon — ₩14,000

Unusual because this jeon (pan-fried dish) is made with pork instead of beef. It had no gamy smell and was on the light side, and eating it with scallion salad cut through any oiliness nicely. Adding the chili and red seasoning made it even more refreshing.

4) Sundubu yeolramyeon — how spicy is it?

This was a dish I personally really wanted to try. It had extra spicy seasoning added compared to regular yeolramyeon, so it was pretty hot. It's delicious eaten scooping up the soft tofu with the broth, but if you're not good with spicy food, be careful.

5) Old-style patbingsu — ₩7,000

Ordered as a palate cleanser to finish. It's the old-fashioned style, with red beans on plain shaved ice and milk poured over top — a familiar taste similar to the blue-lidded Lotte patbingsu cups sold at grocery stores. The price is reasonable too, and the portion was quite large, making it a great dessert.

Is Gorae Byeoljang Suji Branch good value? Prices and atmosphere

The biggest strength of Gorae Byeoljang Suji Branch is its value for money. Even after ordering a wide variety of dishes, the total came to only about 80,000 won, so it didn't feel like a big financial burden.

Another thing that stood out was that even though it's a bar, plenty of customers come just to eat. I saw quite a few local residents visiting with their children, especially families ordering chicken.

It's a good place to go for drinks and snacks, but also good for a meal shared across several dishes. If Gorae Byeoljang Suji Branch were in my neighborhood, I probably would have become a regular.
