Gapyeong makguksu restaurant with potato pancake: Dami Seorak

On the way home from a weekend camping trip near Chuncheon, we stopped by Dami Seorak Charcoal-grilled Dakgalbi. We needed easy parking, and everyone wanted something different, so this was the spot we picked.

Dami Seorak Charcoal-grilled Dakgalbi is at 150 Hanseo-ro, Seorak-myeon, Gapyeong-gun, Gyeonggi-do, open from 10 AM to 9 PM (last order 8 PM), every day.
The lot in front of the restaurant was spacious, so we had plenty of room. Maybe because it was lunchtime, there were quite a few cars already! We found a shady spot and headed in.
Inside Dami Seorak: dining room and kiosk ordering
The dining room went back further than I expected, so it was actually much bigger, and more customers were seated toward the back — I deliberately photographed the emptier tables.
Turns out this place is kind of famous — celebrity autographs were easy to spot on the wall haha. Seeing them made it feel even more like a proper local favorite haha.
We grabbed a table and ordered at the kiosk. You have to pay right when you order.
What three of us ordered: makguksu, dakgaejang and potato pancake
Bibim-makguksu (spicy buckwheat noodles), mul-makguksu (cold buckwheat noodle soup), dakgaejang (spicy chicken soup), gamjajeon (potato pancake). Just the three of us including a kid, but we each picked our own dish and still added gamjajeon because we love it haha. The kiosk menu even had gamjajeon listed. I was torn between memil-jeonbyeong (buckwheat crepe) and gamjajeon, but going with gamjajeon was totally the right call!! haha It was genuinely delicious!!
Seven side dishes as standard, all tasting home-cooked
Before the side dishes even came out, they brought water, cups, and wet wipes.
We didn't wait long before seven side dishes arrived. Wow… honestly you could finish a whole bowl of rice on these alone haha. Every single one suited my taste, and I'm saying this because we cleared all of them! I personally love chive kimchi, and this one tasted freshly made — not watery at all, seasoning spot on! Ah~ The sautéed zucchini was nicely sweet with good texture too. My daughter has gotten picky as she's grown, but she ate most of these side dishes without fuss, and the flavor felt less like a big-chain taste and more like banchan (side dishes) my own mom would make — homemade comfort food. That's honestly what I loved most about it haha.
Since we ordered makguksu, sauce came along with it too.
Crispy-edged gamjajeon and chilled makguksu
Even in photos this looks so appetizing… The gamjajeon came straight out of the fryer, so the edges were crispy like a cracker — so good. My daughter ate it up too. Gamjajeon and makguksu! haha (kids' taste buds don't lie haha)
Mornings and evenings had a chill in the air, but midday sun was surprisingly strong and warm, so the cold makguksu hit the spot.
Haha, the moment I reached for the gamjajeon, chopsticks came racing in to grab their share too hahaha — the crispy edges are that good haha, no sharing mercy here!
Is Dami Seorak's dakgaejang mild enough for kids?
The dakgaejang I ordered wasn't spicy at all, so my daughter happily ate both the rice and the broth. (It's mild enough for a kid in the early years of elementary school.)
Chive kimchi and gamjajeon together is an absolute perfect match! Highly, highly recommend this combo!!!
Verdict: would we go back to Dami Seorak?
Even though we each ordered something different, the main dishes came out fast, which I loved, and the side dishes were a full seven kinds! Tasty and generously portioned enough to finish a bowl of rice on their own. We've been heading out to Gapyeong a lot lately, and with easy parking and a good variety of meal options, I'm planning to come back again!!
