Byeollnae steamed clam restaurant with outdoor tables: Wonhadeon Bada
In short
Sujakgye Wonhadeon Bada Byeollnae Main Branch is a grilled and steamed clam restaurant beside Bulam Stream, by Exit 3 of Byeollnae Byeolgaram Station in Namyangju, Gyeonggi. On a chilly evening the writer took an outdoor yajang table and ordered the small clam steamer with broth for 55,000 won, sharing octopus, abalone, oyster, crab and fan mussel with her child. Because the staff cook everything for you and you simply lift out the clams, Wonhadeon Bada is an easy choice for eating out with a kid.

I went back to Sujakgye Wonhadeon Bada Byeollnae Main Branch, a favorite spot in Byeollnae for a good meal or a drink. Last time I had grilled clams, but with the weather turning chilly I was craving a hot clam steamer. My kid and I had just visited the Byeollnae Toy Library and stopped by for dinner.

Where is Wonhadeon Bada Byeollnae, and where do you park?
Sujakgye Wonhadeon Bada Byeollnae Main Branch is right by Exit 3 of Byeollnae Byeoram Station, heading toward Starbucks. It's next to Bulam Stream, so it wasn't hard to find at all. You can park along the stream or use the building's basement lot, which gives you 3 free hours — really convenient if you're driving.

Seafood on the menu in prawn season
Since it's prawn season, I went back and forth between the salt-grilled wild prawns and the clam steamer. In the end I decided on the clam steamer this time and figured I'd come back soon for the prawns.

Last time I ate indoors, but now it's the perfect weather to enjoy the outdoor tables (yajang). Couldn't let this season pass, so I sat outside.

They also sell non-alcoholic beer, so people who drove could still enjoy the vibe.

Ordering is done through a kiosk. They also have seasonal menu items, so it's nice that there's something new to try each time the season changes.

A clam grill and steamer specialist in Byeollnae-dong
There's more than just clams here — plenty of other seafood too, and since it's prawn season, the shrimp were everywhere. They also sell raw prawns, and I saw some people just buying shrimp to take home.

Eating steamed clams at an outdoor yajang table
It's yajang (outdoor dining) season. Couldn't let this season pass, so I sat outside.

After ordering, my kid asked for cotton candy, so we took a quick trip near Byeollnae Byeoram Station. I tried to substitute a convenience store candy, but she wanted a big candy instead of a lollipop, so we ended up going all the way to the mart. When we came back, our order was just being served. The clam steamer needs a bit more cooking time even after it arrives, so it was fine to step out briefly.

What comes in the 55,000 won small clam steamer with broth
We ordered the small clam steamer with broth for 55,000 won. The visual alone was incredible — I couldn't believe this was the small size, it was so generous, and packed with such a wide variety of seafood. The colors were so pretty and abundant that I kept taking photos.
The side dishes served with the clam steamer
The basic side dishes included corn salad, edamame, and jalapeño. My kid enjoyed the corn salad. She usually likes beans, so I tried giving her edamame too, but apparently that's different — she didn't eat much of it, haha.

Tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes) also came as a side dish. While my kid and I were at the mart, my husband had already dug in. Luckily I'd taken a photo beforehand, so I still got the shot, lol.

Enjoying clam steamer outdoors — it's nice in the daytime, and just as nice with a nighttime atmosphere too~

The clam steamer you keep looking at
Clam steamer has a different charm from grilled clams. Because it's packed so generously, it took a bit to cook through, and we let it simmer about 15 more minutes.

Octopus, abalone, oyster and crab in one pot
The steamer wasn't just clams. Hidden inside was an octopus, making its presence known with its thick legs and suckers.

I was a little sad to skip the salt-grilled wild prawns, but I was glad there was shrimp in the clam steamer too. Still, I'll have to come back for the prawns next time.
Fan mussel and fan mussel scallop, essentials for both grilled and steamed clams, were in there too.
The abalone was cleaned perfectly. I love abalone but rarely get to eat it at home since cleaning it is such a hassle — so it was nice to enjoy it already neatly prepped.
There were oysters too. I love summer, but when it comes to seafood, I'm actually happy to see the cold wind coming. Bring on autumn, bring on winter, haha.

The cheongha (Korean rice wine) we ordered was 5,500 won. Usually where soju is 5,000 won, cheongha runs around 6,000 won, so saving 500 won here somehow made me feel like I'd scored a deal, haha.

Why steamed clams are easy to share with a child
Grilled clams honestly feel a bit of a hassle since you have to grill them yourself, but with clam steamer you just pull out the already-cooked clams one by one, which made it relatively easy to eat with my kid.

I hadn't had blue crab even once this fall, so I was glad to get a taste thanks to the crab in the steamer. There was more meat in it than I expected.
We hadn't even finished all the clams yet, and already a whole bucket of shells had piled up. There's a trash bin next to the table, so you can toss the clam shells yourself.

Cheers~ With a great outdoor atmosphere and delicious clam steamer, the drinks just keep flowing.

Cockles and scallops in the pot too
I happily worked through every kind of clam I love.
Cheese also came out, so you can pair it with the clams. Daddy rolled up some cheese for our excited kid, haha. Glad mom's happy and you're happy too.

She even happily worked through every type of oyster. It made for such a happy time~ Even at the small size, the clam steamer with broth was generously portioned, and it was great being able to sample a wide variety of seafood — octopus, shrimp, fan mussel, abalone, oyster, crab, and more.
