Midnight Korean BBQ in Uijeongbu: pork belly and jowl, Geuttaegeujip

My boyfriend and I went to Uijeongbu to watch the movie 'Odyssey' for the first time in a while. Everyone strongly recommended watching it in IMAX. So I looked into IMAX screenings, but a week ahead, seats in Yongsan and Wangsimni were already completely sold out ㅠ^ㅠ So I booked at the Uijeongbu CGV instead, where seats were relatively available.

Since the movie would end past midnight, I was wondering what to do about dinner, when I heard there was a 24-hour pork belly restaurant in the new town area near Uijeongbu Station. Thanks to top-quality meat and a friendly owner, we had a really delicious meal — here's my review of Geuttaegeujip (그때그집) in Uijeongbu.

Where is Geuttaegeujip in Uijeongbu, and how do the 24-hour opening and parking work?

Geuttaegeujip is located at 25 Beomgol-ro 145beon-gil, 1st floor, Uijeongbu-si, Gyeonggi-do, 241m from Exit 1 of Uijeongbu Station's light rail. It's open 24 hours, Monday through Sunday, with no holidays, and for parking you can use the nearby public parking lot.

Geuttaegeujip in Uijeongbu is located close to Exit 1 of the light rail station. We drove that day and used the nearby public parking lot. There was a car parked in front of the shop, but since it was the weekend and late at night, it looked like they'd just parked there. There is about one parking spot beside the restaurant, but it's really hit or miss, so I'd recommend using the nearby public parking lot.

The aging fridge at the door and a dining room big enough for group dinners

Right at the entrance of Geuttaegeujip is an eye-catching meat-aging fridge. They were aging pork belly, pork neck, pork jowl, and skirt meat (gabrisal), and Geuttaegeujip is apparently a restaurant that only serves top-grade fresh meat.

The interior is spacious and the tables are placed with generous spacing, so it's very comfortable to dine in. It seemed like it would be a great spot for a company dinner too. Since Geuttaegeujip is open 24 hours, it's an easy place to visit even if you're craving pork belly early in the morning, and since they also sell non-grilled meal items separately, it's a great place to stop by for a simple lunch too.

The table had wet wipes, napkins, cups, spoons, and chopsticks all set up, and it had my favorite kind of grill — a cauldron-lid pan. Let's start simple with 3 servings ^^

Three servings of thick-cut pork belly and the side dishes that come with it

Here's the 3 servings of pork belly we ordered at Geuttaegeujip. The meat really looks good, right? I loved how thick they cut it. They also gave us mushrooms and onions on the house.

The basic side dish spread. Even the standard side dishes come out generously. The kimchi pancake was tasty and the kimchi was especially delicious. Since they also sell lunch meals, it seemed like the side dishes change a little day to day.

Pork belly needs soju, no question. Tonight we're sticking to soju only.

Pork belly on the cauldron-lid grill, eaten with lettuce wraps and onions

The sound of the meat sizzling the moment it hit the cauldron-lid pan... the sound of meat grilling always gets me excited haha. They neatly laid out the meat with mushrooms, onions, and kimchi to grill it all together. The meat was really excellent. Even my boyfriend, who's a meat connoisseur, was impressed and said, 'They're using really good meat here.'

Cut into easy-to-eat pieces, the pork belly was grilling to a nice golden brown...

I especially love eating rice with meat and taking a big bite wrapped in lettuce, and Geuttaegeujip was a place that was especially delicious for that. The rice must be a really good quality too, because it was fluffy and tasty. Aged kimchi, rice, and a vegetable wrap... it was really, really good ㅠㅠ

Taking a bite of the well-grilled onion together with the meat, the sweet onion and savory pork belly are a perfect match.

The pork belly just kept disappearing endlessly... I think pork belly is delicious even if you eat it every day.

The free doenjang jjigae and the extra pork jowl we added

They said the soybean paste stew (doenjang jjigae) at Geuttaegeujip comes free of charge. And it wasn't a skimpy free stew at all — it was packed full of ingredients. It had tofu, zucchini, green onion, onion, and all kinds of vegetables, and the flavor of the rich soybean paste stew was great :)

For a couple of big eaters, stopping at 3 servings of pork belly is always a bit of a letdown. So we ordered our favorite, pork jowl, as an extra. And well... the quality of the pork jowl speaks for itself. I have to admit the owner really does use good meat ㅠㅠ

Chewy, springy pork jowl... it was so good ㅠㅠ Honestly, even after finishing all the pork jowl, we thought about ordering fried rice too, but since it was late and we were about to head straight to bed, we held back (sort of) haha...

Is Geuttaegeujip worth a late-night Korean BBQ run near Uijeongbu Station?

Today I visited Geuttaegeujip, a famous pork belly spot near Uijeongbu Station. Since it's open 24 hours, it's great to visit anytime without worrying about the clock — whether you want meat first thing in the morning or late at dawn, you can go without a second thought. The staff are all friendly, and the meat quality is top-notch across the board. I highly recommend Geuttaegeujip — go check it out sometime!!
