Daejeon Korean BBQ with grilled pork and sides: Imdaejang

Imdaejang Daejeon Dunsan Branch is a Korean barbecue restaurant in Seo-gu, Daejeon, where the staff serve all the meat already grilled. We had pork belly, pork neck jowl, beef brisket doenjang-jjigae, and cold kimchi noodle soup, finishing with free ice cream. A great reservation-worthy choice for an easy, no-grilling Korean BBQ meal.

Daejeon Chinese restaurant for peppery kaoyu: Bantiannyao

Bantiannyao Kaoyu Daejeon Branch is a Chinese and Asian restaurant in Dunsan-dong, Seo-gu, Daejeon. After reserving for a weekday dinner, I ordered Qinghuajiao kaoyu with a vegetable-and-mushroom add-on and soy skin, then helped myself to sauces and ice cream. Verdict: the numbing pepper aroma and generous add-ons made it a great meal.

Daejeon noodle restaurant for bibim kalguksu: Yongja 1

Yongja 1 Gwanpyeong Branch is a handmade noodle restaurant in Yuseong, Daejeon, near the Gwanpyeong-dong food alley and Daejeon Hyundai Outlet. We tried kalguksu, bibim kalguksu, and freshly steamed kimchi dumplings; the mildly spicy mixed noodles were my top pick. Verdict: order all three for a deeply satisfying meal.
