Gukbap Cafe Pick Up To You is a Korean restaurant near Gangneung Station in Gangneung, Gangwon. On the first meal of our family trip, we shared gukbap and thick pork cutlet; the rich yet clean broth, crisp cutlet, comfortable seating, and customizable soup made it an easy choice for different tastes.
Cafe Dunchi is a floating café on the Namdaecheon River in Yangyang, Gangwon, where I had drinks with my child before riding an electric boat. The river views and boat ride were memorable, though it was busier than expected during the May holiday and the restroom is outside near the entrance.
Sinhaeburi Hoejip is a seafood restaurant on Daepohang-gil in Sokcho, where I ordered a ₩150,000 snow crab and sashimi set for two with my mother. The thick slices of assorted raw fish, prepared snow crab, mulhoe, steamed scallops, and spicy fish stew were more than we could finish, but I was satisfied with the price.
Yeon Makchang Dangye Branch is a Korean barbecue restaurant on Cheonsa-ro in Dangye-dong, Wonju. I had lotus-leaf-aged makchang, special makchang, and frozen pork belly on a weekend evening; the tender, chewy Yeon makchang with salt was my favorite.
Baegya Coffee is a large bakery café on Haean-ro in Gangneung, where I stopped for coffee and two breads after a run. The ocean-facing tiered seating and full-height windows made the view especially enjoyable, and the spacious parking and tray stands by the elevator were useful touches.
Hwangbuja Twigim is a Korean fried-snack shop in Sokcho Central Market, Gangwon. I visited early in the morning for takeout of nurungji ojingeo sundae and giant prawn and squid fritters; even after some time, they stayed crisp without an intrusive oily smell.
Yeoyejeong (여여정) is a barbecue restaurant in Seo-myeon, Yangyang, where I ate pork ribs and beef salchisal with my family. The beef was tender and richly meaty, while the pork ribs were mildly savory rather than overly sweet; the spacious parking lot was convenient, but the restaurant was full when we arrived.
Eosiljang Sashimi Takeout is a sashimi takeout shop in Sonyang-myeon, Yangyang. I preordered an assorted platter for two, picked it up about 10 minutes from my Sol Beach lodging, and ate it there; the tidy packaging and included seafood and sides made dinner convenient.
Sokcho Daeilho Bangeo is a seafood takeout shop in Sokcho Tourist & Fishery Market, Sokcho. I picked two pre-packed assorted sashimi sets for my family to eat at our accommodation; shared with other market food, they were enough for six adults and the fish stayed pleasantly chewy.
Bongpo Hoega is a seafood restaurant in Toseong-myeon, Goseong, Gangwon, where I picked up a medium assorted sashimi platter for ₩69,000 to eat at my accommodation. The slices were thick and felt plentiful for two, with carefully packed wraps and condiments, though I still wished I could have had the full table setting in the restaurant.
Ichiba Ramen is a Japanese ramen restaurant in Sokcho, Gangwon. At lunch, I tried the red snow crab and pollock roe cream ramen, karai ramen, and butadon with an extra egg; the two ramen bowls stood out, while the rice bowl worked well alongside them.
Mukho Sotbokkeumtang is a Korean restaurant on Ilchul-ro in Donghae, Gangwon. During a Mukho trip, the two of us ordered a small dakdoritang for lunch and let it simmer at the table. The broth went well with rice, and the small portion was more filling than expected.
