Baegya Coffee is a large bakery café on Haean-ro in Gangneung, where I stopped for coffee and two breads after a run. The ocean-facing tiered seating and full-height windows made the view especially enjoyable, and the spacious parking and tray stands by the elevator were useful touches.
Hwangbuja Twigim is a Korean fried-snack shop in Sokcho Central Market, Gangwon. I visited early in the morning for takeout of nurungji ojingeo sundae and giant prawn and squid fritters; even after some time, they stayed crisp without an intrusive oily smell.
Yeoyejeong (여여정) is a barbecue restaurant in Seo-myeon, Yangyang, where I ate pork ribs and beef salchisal with my family. The beef was tender and richly meaty, while the pork ribs were mildly savory rather than overly sweet; the spacious parking lot was convenient, but the restaurant was full when we arrived.
Eosiljang Sashimi Takeout is a sashimi takeout shop in Sonyang-myeon, Yangyang. I preordered an assorted platter for two, picked it up about 10 minutes from my Sol Beach lodging, and ate it there; the tidy packaging and included seafood and sides made dinner convenient.
Sokcho Daeilho Bangeo is a seafood takeout shop in Sokcho Tourist & Fishery Market, Sokcho. I picked two pre-packed assorted sashimi sets for my family to eat at our accommodation; shared with other market food, they were enough for six adults and the fish stayed pleasantly chewy.
Bongpo Hoega is a seafood restaurant in Toseong-myeon, Goseong, Gangwon, where I picked up a medium assorted sashimi platter for ₩69,000 to eat at my accommodation. The slices were thick and felt plentiful for two, with carefully packed wraps and condiments, though I still wished I could have had the full table setting in the restaurant.
Ichiba Ramen is a Japanese ramen restaurant in Sokcho, Gangwon. At lunch, I tried the red snow crab and pollock roe cream ramen, karai ramen, and butadon with an extra egg; the two ramen bowls stood out, while the rice bowl worked well alongside them.
Mukho Sotbokkeumtang is a Korean restaurant on Ilchul-ro in Donghae, Gangwon. During a Mukho trip, the two of us ordered a small dakdoritang for lunch and let it simmer at the table. The broth went well with rice, and the small portion was more filling than expected.
Cafe KIWA is a hanok café on Chodangwon-gil in Gangneung, with a courtyard garden and window seats overlooking it. I visited on a weekend afternoon with my father and husband for the signature lattes and tile-shaped cake; the restrained sweetness and cozy setting made it good for a family conversation.
Jinmi Hwareo Center is a sashimi shop in the basement of Sokcho Tourist & Fishery Market in Sokcho, Gangwon. I took a small yellowtail back to my accommodation and enjoyed its thick-cut, pleasantly chewy, nutty-tasting slices; the route down to the basement may be confusing on a first visit.
Gangneung Sand Main Branch is a dessert café on Seonggogyang-gil 5beonan-gil in Gangneung. I bought coffee and black sesame sandwiches as gifts during a trip with my mother, and we both enjoyed their distinct flavors.
Minja Hoetjip is a sashimi restaurant inside Jumunjin Fish Market in Gangneung, Gangwon. We took a 40,000 won small seasonal assorted sashimi platter and 15,000 won mulhoe to Sacheonjin Beach for car camping, and loved the springy fish, generous portion, and complimentary seafood. For sashimi with an ocean view while car camping, Minja Hoetjip takeaway gets a big recommendation.
