Jeju Samchun is an aged black pork restaurant near Hamdeok Beach in Jeju, close to Sonobel Jeju. A group of four visited for dinner, waited about 20 minutes, ordered the Samchun set plus two extra servings of aged samgyeopsal (pork belly), and rounded it out with yeolmu noodles and kimchi jjigae. With staff grilling the meat from start to finish and a standout myeongran (pollock roe) sauce and breadcrumb salt, it's a solid pick for dinner after a swim or a meal near Sonobel Jeju.

Husband's gift of oranda and gwajul at Jeju Dongmun Market

Cheongchuni Oranda Dongmun Market Main Branch Tapdong is an old-fashioned snack shop inside Jeju Dongmun Market that makes oranda and gwajul fresh on the spot. After tasting all four oranda flavors (gamtae, manong, yuzu, and nuts) plus gwajul at the sample table, the writer picked out oranda and gwajul as a gift for her husband on the last day of the trip, and he said, "This is the best oranda I've ever had." Not too sweet and pleasantly moist, it's a solid pick for a Jeju Dongmun Market souvenir.

Oreumak Garden Jungmun Main Branch is a 40-year-old black pork restaurant in Jungmun, Seogwipo, Jeju, and the first in Jeju to introduce dry-aging. A dry-aged half portion for two (black bone ribeye, black pork neck, black pork jowl) came with prawns, mushrooms and side dishes, grilled tableside by staff, and ended with a self-made bibimbap from the leftover banchan. The black bone ribeye's thick, juicy bite made it clear why locals swear by this place.

Grilled hairtail set meal near Yongnuni Oreum, Jeju: Jongdal Sudatteul

Jongdal Sudatteul is a 13-side-dish Korean set meal restaurant on Yongnuni Oreum-ro in Gujwa-eup, Jeju City.
