Palm-sized pork mandu at 3pm at Handam Guksu, Jeju Aewol

In short

Handam Guksu Gwakji Aewol Branch is an ocean-view gogigguksu (pork noodle soup) restaurant on Aewol-ro in Jeju. Visiting at 3pm, the writer had sagol gogigguksu (bone-broth pork noodles), dongchimi bibim guksu, and palm-sized pork mandu, with a broth as pale and rich as gomtang. If you want pork noodles and an ocean view together in Aewol, Handam Guksu is a great choice.

Signature photo of gogigguksu at Handam Guksu in Aewol, Jeju

Today I visited 'Jeju Handam Guksu' Aewol branch, an already-famous gogigguksu (pork noodle soup) place in Aewol, Jeju, with a gorgeous view and great taste to match. This spot really nails both food and view perfectly!

There's a parking space right in front of the restaurant! And the walk up to the place... it's so pretty. Since it's an ocean view spot, you can see the sea from everywhere — the view is seriously the best.

Especially once you're inside, the floor-to-ceiling windows show the whole ocean! It was great being able to eat gogigguksu while looking at the sea.

Even at 3pm, the place was packed

The restaurant was bigger than I expected, and even at an odd hour like 3pm, there were seriously so many people. I guess it's already famous as an Aewol favorite. Ordering was done via tablet right at the table.

Sagol gogigguksu, dongchimi bibim guksu, and pork mandu review

I ordered one dongchimi bibim guksu, one sagol gogigguksu, and one pork mandu.

The view was so pretty that the photos turned out great, and I felt good the whole meal. The food looked really delicious too, and the portions were genuinely huge.

Sagol gogigguksu has a broth just like gomtang

First, the sagol gogigguksu has noodles in a broth that's been simmered for a long time so it's clean-tasting but rich — pork bone broth with noodles! The broth was seriously pale and thick. Totally like gomtang (milky bone soup).

Dongchimi bibim guksu is sweet and spicy

The dongchimi bibim guksu comes with the dongchimi (radish water kimchi) served separately from the mixed noodles. Maybe because of the special sauce, it tasted sweet and spicy in a way that kept making me want more. It wasn't very spicy, so it's a heat level anyone could enjoy.

Adding the dongchimi in partway through makes it more refreshing and gives it a different flavor, so I ate about half plain and half with the dongchimi added in!! There were finely chopped bits of meat in the dongchimi too, which went really well eaten together with the noodles — the meat was clean-tasting and tender.

The noodles weren't thick either, and they were chewy in a way that got sweeter the more you chewed! Every time I come to Jeju I always eat gogigguksu, and I'd highly recommend this place.

The pork mandu is palm-sized, one piece

And the pork mandu we ordered alongside — one piece alone is the size of your palm, so it's really huge, and the wrapper is thin with meat and chives packed inside, so it felt like eating actual meat. Very satisfying.

If you're eating gogigguksu in Aewol

If you're looking for a good restaurant in the Aewol area of Jeju or craving gogigguksu, definitely visit Handam Guksu once!! Oh, and at the end they even gave us Jeju chocolate as a gift..♥ The owner's sense of hospitality is the best.
