Korean beef ribeye lunch at Wonangmyeongga, a Daejeon BBQ restaurant
In short
Wonangmyeongga Dunsan City Hall branch is a Korean beef (hanwoo) restaurant in Dunsan-dong, Seo-gu, Daejeon, right behind Daejeon City Hall, that only serves two-plus grade beef from cows aged 30 to 40 months, picked straight from the display fridge. A weekday lunch there covered grilled flower ribeye, banchan, ugeoji-tang, self-bar corn, and a Hamhung cold noodle dessert. With a big parking lot and private rooms, it's a great spot to bring parents for a family meal.

A hanwoo restaurant behind Daejeon City Hall in Dunsan-dong
Wonangmyeongga, a hanwoo (Korean beef) restaurant in Dunsan-dong Two-plus grade flower ribeye, seriously good 41 Dunsanseo-ro, Seo-gu, Daejeon 11:00 – 22:30 Break 14:30 – 17:00 Parking available

Wonangmyeongga is a big hanwoo restaurant right behind Daejeon City Hall in Dunsan-dong. I'd heard it was good but this was my first time visiting! There's a large parking lot right in front, so parking is easy. And since it's right behind city hall, it's also easy to reach by public transit.

Even weekday lunch has a wait, and the meal menu is varied
We came on a weekday for lunch, and maybe because they have a lunch meal menu, the place was packed. There was a wait! Hanwoo bulgogi, hot-pot bulgogi, galbitang, abalone galbitang, eolgalbi galbitang, hanwoo gukbap, hanwoo yukhoe bibimbap, Hamhung mul-naengmyeon — with such a wide range of meal options, it'd be a great spot for office workers on a lunch break too.

Wonangmyeongga only serves two-plus grade hanwoo from cows aged 30 to 40 months. How could that not be delicious!!

You pick the meat yourself from the fridge
You choose your cut from the fridge below, tell the counter, and take it to your table. There's a variety of cuts available. Everything looked so good it was hard to decide haha.

After much deliberation, we went with the flower ribeye! The marbling was insane...

How were the banchan and the charcoal?
Maybe because it was a weekday lunch, we were basically the only ones eating meat there haha. The side dishes were plated neatly. My mom said they looked clean and nice, and she liked them. We got steamed egg, japchae, tomato caprese, pickled onion, myeong-i namul (wild leek greens), fresh seasoned veggies, baek-kimchi, and salad.

The charcoal came out too, and the quality was great!! Good heat, and it sucked up the smoke well too — I barely smelled of it after eating.

The taste of the two-plus grade flower ribeye
Come on, how could two-plus grade flower ribeye not be delicious?

Alright, let's eat some meat~~ Meat for lunch? Anything goes~~
We also got a hot soup, sashimi, and cheonyeop (beef tripe)! Nice basic spread that comes with the meat.
Ugeoji-tang? Ugeoji-guk? Siraegi-guk? Something in that family — the broth was deep and rich. And there was quite a lot of meat in it too haha.

Cooked up nice and golden. They say hanwoo tastes better cooked well-done, right? I don't eat it rare haha.

Wait, isn't this meat way too good? It melts in your mouth. The savory flavor spreads through your mouth — every bite feels precious, it's a shame to eat it too fast.

They put all the leftover meat back on the grill for us.

Why the self-bar corn is so popular
There are self-bars on both sides, so it's easy to use conveniently!
There was corn on one side, and people kept coming back for more. Every table had a scoop of corn, so I grabbed some to try later.

This place does corn really well haha. I like corn with New Sugar (Korean sweetener) mixed in, and the seasoning here was spot on. There's a reason people kept going back for more haha. My mom even refilled twice^^

A spacious restaurant with private rooms too
There's a spacious hall on the first floor, plus private rooms further in. There's also a hall on the second floor, but it didn't seem to be in use at lunchtime.

Tripe, daechang, seasoned galbi, yuksashimi, yukhoe, and chadolbaegi can all be ordered separately. Plain beef, you pick and bring from the front yourself.

Even dessert — Hamhung cold noodles
For dessert, I ordered the Hamhung mul-naengmyeon (cold buckwheat noodles). This place does cold noodles well too? The broth was different from other places!! Not that MSG-seasoning taste at all. From the basic banchan to the quality of the meat to dessert, there's a reason this place is known as a hanwoo restaurant in Dunsan-dong. I'm definitely coming back to Wonangmyeongga for our next family gathering!! My mom was satisfied and ate happily too — Wonangmyeongga in Dunsan-dong comes highly recommended as a place to bring your parents~~
