Peach salt bread and pistachio pastry at Reelbakers, Daejeon café

In short

Reelbakers is a bakery café in Tanbang-dong, Seo-gu, Daejeon, a 5-minute walk from Exit 4 of Tanbang Station. Visiting with a friend, I tried the peach wakku salt bread, pistachio cream pastry, signature reel latte, and an Americano, and the display case had an amazing variety of pastries. It's a great spot for a day when you want to enjoy dessert properly, not just coffee.

Reelbakers is a bakery café in Tanbang-dong, about a 5-minute walk from Exit 4 of Tanbang Station. A place in Daejeon's Tanbang-dong that specializes in salt bread and croissants!

Inside the café

One side had a full glass wall, so natural light poured in and it felt open.

Wood tables, vintage chairs, and plants hanging from the ceiling came together for a space that felt both comfortable and modern :)

What's in the display case

Display case full of bread at Reelbakers

Any dessert lover would've fainted seeing this display haha

Pistachio cream pastries on display
Fruit-topped croissants on display

From egg tarts to croffles, pastries topped with pistachio cream, croissants piled high with fruit, and danishes — the variety was really impressive.

There was also a raspberry chocolate pastry! And true to a croissant specialty shop, plenty of croissants in different flavors too.

There were egg tarts too :) The pastry layers looked so crisp and alive I wanted to try one of everything.

What we actually tasted

My friend and I ordered the peach wakku salt bread, pistachio cream pastry, and a reel latte & Americano.

Signature reel latte

It was called a signature latte, so I had to order the reel latte!

Signature reel latte with a thick layer of cream on top

The cream on top was really soft and generously thick — not just a plain sweet cream but more like a mocha-coffee-candy flavored coffee cream, soft and rich and delicious!

One bite of the cream melts fluffy and soft, then the bitter coffee flavor follows — the balance worked so well ^^

Peach wakku salt bread

I got hooked on wakku salt bread a bit late, and now I look for it at every café I visit... haha. Since Reelbakers also specializes in salt bread, I was curious how theirs would taste!

A peach wakku salt bread

Cutting it in half, I got the fresh, sweet flavor unique to peach along with the moist sweetness of the compote ❤️

The salt bread itself was nutty and mild, which balanced really well with the peach overall.

With one bite, you first get a crackly chocolate texture on the outside, then moist peach inside — the contrast in texture was fun and delicious ^^

It was sweet, but the crispness and freshness of the fruit kept it from getting cloying all the way through.

Americano served alongside dessert

The Americano had no sourness and a nicely balanced flavor, perfect for pairing cleanly with dessert :)

Pistachio cream pastry

Bright green pistachio cream pastry

Its striking color caught my eye right away in the display case, so I ordered the pistachio one!

Close-up of the pistachio pastry's exterior

It was too pretty to want to cut in half haha, but I carefully cut into it anyway

I was surprised the inside was even greener than the outside haha. Inside the layered, rolled pastry was packed with soft pistachio cream!

The outside was crispy, and toward the inside the layers got moister with pistachio cream running through — the nutty flavor spread subtly with every bite.

As a pistachio lover, I might've wanted the cream a bit richer, but it wasn't too heavy or greasy either — it paired well with the nutty pastry and went great with coffee!

Final thoughts

If you're in Tanbang-dong on a day when you want to enjoy dessert properly rather than just coffee, this is a great place to stop by. The pastry variety was so wide that next time I want to try the croffle and fruit pastries I missed this time 😊
