Whenever I crave seasonal grilled fish, this is the place that comes to mind — I've already been back more than ten times. It's great to bring kids, and lots of people take their parents here too. It's my go-to spot in Seongsa-dong: Min Cook Apbadang. Once you visit, you save it as your grilled fish spot and just keep coming back!

Min Cook Apbadang is a Seongsa-dong restaurant specializing in seasonal grilled fish. It's near IKEA Goyang, Hanyang CC, and Goyang CC, which makes it popular for family meals and golf outings alike. I always go with my kid, and the grilled fish is clean-tasting and generous, so I'd recommend it as a Seongsa-dong spot for eating out with kids!

Interior with a sign introducing the Japanese-cuisine master

Min Cook Apbadang is run by Master Min Cook, a Japanese-cuisine master who has worked exclusively with fish for over 30 years, serving neat, refined seasonal grilled fish. The clean, tidy plating makes it a great place to bring parents in Seongsa-dong for a family meal.

Even on an early weekday evening, there were quite a few families dining. The interior is spacious with generous gaps between tables, making for a comfortable atmosphere.

Menu board listing seasonal grilled fish and braised fish

At Min Cook Apbadang you'll find a range of fish dishes — seasonal grilled fish, braised fish, and a weekday lunch special. I always order the seasonal grilled fish, and since the fish varies by season and day, every visit brings a different lineup!

Board announcing today's fish selection

They write up today's fish selection, and since I ordered the seasonal grilled fish for two, mine came as cod cheek, flounder, and wild bottom cod. It's for two, but the fish is thick and large, so it's a generous serving!

Neatly arranged basic banchan spread

The basic banchan arrives neat and tidy. Even familiar side dishes feel special when they're presented this cleanly — it's part of why I keep coming back to this Seongsa-dong family restaurant!

Self-bar stocked with banchan

All the banchan is set out at the self-bar, so if you run low on anything, just help yourself to more. Everything here is delicious, but the namul (seasoned vegetables) especially!!

The namul is so good that a lot of people end up buying the sesame oil the restaurant sells for seasoning namul at home~~

Fresh salad with house-made dressing on the side is a nice touch too.

The basic banchan lineup changes a bit every time I visit Min Cook Apbadang, and this time the namul was especially good again!! Nutty and soft — the kind of namul you just keep refilling your plate with~

Japchae (glass noodle stir-fry) and doenjang soup are also on hand, so feel free to help yourself!

So how did the seasonal grilled fish actually taste?

The serving robot moving through the restaurant

Min Cook Apbadang has a serving robot, and my 34-month-old absolutely loves it — every visit, they can't take their eyes off it.

Thin, crisp buckwheat pancake served first

The first thing to arrive with the seasonal grilled fish set: buckwheat pancake! Thin and crisp, nutty and clean-tasting — perfect to nibble on while waiting for the fish.

Grilled fish platter for two with cod cheek and flounder

And finally, the grilled fish! Cod cheek, wild bottom cod, and two flounder. It comes out already perfectly grilled, ready to eat right away, and the seasoning overall isn't heavy-handed at all, letting the fish's own flavor shine.

Each fish has its own flavor and texture, so it's fun to pick and choose. The cod cheek in particular was thick and tender, getting cleaner and cleaner tasting the more you chewed~~ The wild bottom cod had incredible depth of flavor and was so soft that my kid ate it right up~ The flounder had a light special sauce drizzled on top that went perfectly with its moist flesh.

Freshly cooked sotbap served with the grilled fish spread

Min Cook Apbadang serves sotbap (hot pot rice) with the meal — enjoy the freshly cooked, steaming rice alongside the grilled fish, and don't forget the sungnyung (scorched rice tea) at the end!

📌 If you love grilled fish, this is a Seongsa-dong spot you have to try at least once: Min Cook Apbadang. I've already visited more than ten times, and that alone says how satisfying it is~
