Veteran General Fish Market is walkable from both Incheon Bus Terminal Station and Arts Center Station, and it sits inside the Guwol-dong Rodeo Street district, so access is easy, I tell ya. A huge fish tank greets you right from the entrance, and the water is kept so clean that this Guwol-dong sashimi spot earns your trust before you even walk in.

I came at lunchtime and the place was already packed with customers. As you'd expect from a top Guwol-dong sashimi restaurant, lots of people were having sashimi or the lunch special even in the daytime, so the mood was lively and buzzing. Even at peak time with a full house, the staff were quick and friendly, and the tables are spaced wide apart, so you can eat in comfort. Ordering a single-item red sea bream and seafood ramen

Today I was really craving chamdom (red sea bream), so Sin Kkulkkul ordered a single-item red sea bream with haemul ramyeon (seafood ramen).

First, the basic side dishes were laid out neatly at lightning speed~ and a hot bowl of miyeok-guk (seaweed soup) came out too. The grilled saury was crisp outside, tender inside and full of savory flavor~

Sin Kkulkkul started frying the buchimgae set out at the self-serve bar. Before the meal came out, fried golden brown in the frying pan~

One bite of the freshly fried, crispy, hot pancake and my appetite kicked right in, so waiting for the main dish wasn't boring at all.

Red sea bream

The red sea bream came yubiki-style (skin lightly scalded), and the bright pinkish-red flesh caught my eye. Glistening with sheen — freshness itself. It's served cold and neatly arranged on a jade stone slab, so you can enjoy it fresh down to the last slice.

The sea bream is cut thick, so there's real bite to it — no fishiness at all, just pure chewiness. Even one slice fills your mouth with nutty flavor and bounce. The more you chew, the more a nutty, subtle sweetness spreads and dances in your mouth. Dipped in sauce, wrapped up as ssam (leaf wraps), combined every which way — Sin Kkulkkul enjoyed it in all sorts of ways.

Seafood ramen

After filling up on sashimi, I ordered the seafood ramen to finish. And the price turned out to be ₩6,500. Veteran General Fish Market's prices are kind. It came in a big stew bowl, steam rising, and the sea aroma wafting up passed the test before I even took a bite.

Plump, big shrimp, mussels and even clams, loaded in~ a natural savory depth and refreshing kick soaked through the whole broth.

Ramen steeped in the umami of the sea is honestly heavenly, and Sin Kkulkkul polished it off without leaving a single bite.
