A full table setting of pork bone udon haejangguk at Eolkeunhan Ppyeo Haejangguk Suwon Ingye Branch

I had a sweet latte in the morning and by lunchtime I was craving something spicy and Korean, so I went to a place famous as a solo-dining spot for Korean food in Ingye-dong and had a properly spicy meal.

I loved that you can choose your spice level to taste, and beyond the usual soup you can also get it with udon noodles — the pork bone udon haejangguk (hangover soup) lets you enjoy udon noodles too, which was such a nice touch.

Earthenware pot of pork bone haejangguk with spicy broth

Thanks to the spicy, hot broth my stomach felt instantly better, and the relaxed vibe made it easy to eat solo in Ingye-dong, which I appreciated even more.

A large, meaty backbone piece being lifted up

The backbone pieces were huge and meaty, so I could load up on protein in a healthy way — let's get straight into my review of this proper bowl of spicy pork bone haejangguk!

Inside the restaurant — space for solo dining and group gatherings alike

Spacious, clean main dining hall of the restaurant

The interior of this great solo-dining spot for Korean food in Ingye-dong is huge and kept spotlessly clean, so I could relax comfortably.

Generously sized table seating

The tables were also huge, giving plenty of room — it's great whenever you're craving a solo Korean meal in Ingye-dong, but just as comfortable for group gatherings.

Room-style separate seating area for group gatherings

There was also a spacious room-style separate area, which looked perfect for a group dinner or a private gathering.

Sign explaining the daily-boiled, same-day-use bone policy

The bones are boiled fresh every day and run by the principle of same-day use, so you can properly enjoy a fresh, delicious bowl of spicy pork bone haejangguk — no wonder this place stays consistently popular.

Free ice cream and self-service side dish bar

Freezer stocked with free ice cream

After a spicy Korean meal, all I can think of is something sweet and cold — and since they offer free ice cream, having it for dessert after a good meal is an absolute jackpot!

Screwbar, Melona and other ice creams on display

The ice cream lineup is stocked with crowd-favorites like Screwbar and Melona — such a thoughtful touch, honestly!

Self-service side dish bar

They bring you a set of side dishes to start, and if you want more, you just help yourself at the self-bar, which was super convenient — the side dishes were clean and delicious too.

What I ordered — spicy pork bone udon soup

Solo table setting with basic side dishes

My stomach was pretty greasy, so I ordered the spicy flavor and went with the slightly special udon noodle option.

Vivid red broth of the spicy pork bone haejangguk

Just by looking at it, the pork bone haejangguk looked spicy and stomach-settling, and the broth was genuinely refreshing and delicious.

Plump udon noodles soaked in broth

It was packed with plump, chewy udon noodles that soaked up the spicy broth beautifully, making it even more delicious to eat — absolute jackpot.

Backbone picked apart, showing plenty of meat

The backbone was loaded with meat too, so I could properly get my protein in — a healthy, hearty solo Korean meal in Ingye-dong that made me so happy.

A tender piece of backbone meat

The meat was so tender and soft — eating this hearty and spicy haejangguk together felt like it really cleared out my stomach, perfect as a hangover cure.

Basic side dishes served with the haejangguk

The side dishes were clean and tasty too, pairing perfectly with the spicy pork bone haejangguk — such a great combo.

A spoonful of the spicy, refreshing soup broth

The broth genuinely had that spicy, refreshing charm, and being able to choose your own spice level was such an appealing point.

Rice and udon noodles mixed into the broth

Mixing the broth with rice was also delicious, and being able to enjoy udon noodles alongside rice let me experience a whole different kind of charm.
