Guwol-dong fish restaurant lunch set with sushi and tempura: Veteran

Today I'm back with a review of Veteran General Fish Market Incheon Guwol Branch, a fish restaurant in Guwol-dong!

For anyone looking for a real, genuine sashimi spot in Guwol-dong, I finally have the review ready... I had something to do near Munhak Stadium this day, and while thinking about what to eat nearby, I ended up going to Veteran General Fish Market Incheon Guwol Branch!

Location and hours

It's close enough to Incheon Lotte Department Store or Incheon Terminal Station to walk there! And of course it's also easily accessible from near the Arts Center. They've also just started serving seasonal raw sweet shrimp and grilled prawns.

The interior is big enough for group gatherings

The inside is really spacious and comfortable! It's a size that can accommodate groups, and even though the tables aren't super widely spaced, you can still have a good conversation within your own table. It extends far back, so it really did look great for group gatherings.

Kimchi pancake and instant noodles at the self-corner

The self-corner! Besides the basic side dishes, you can help yourself to extra banchan, and you can also grab instant noodles to add when you cook the spicy fish stew, which is great. And here's the thing — at Veteran General Fish Market Incheon Guwol Branch, you can make your own kimchi pancake! I actually made one, and even though I'm not great at making it, it still tasted good...

Menu and prices

First, here are the signature menu items! Seasonal assorted sashimi (2 people) ₩38,000, flounder + rockfish (2 people) ₩38,000. These sets include basic side dishes, so they're great value for two people to enjoy together. We were debating between the assorted sashimi and the lunch set that day, and ended up choosing the lunch set!

Lunch Special Set (jin), ₩19,900 per person

There's a set menu where you can enjoy a wide variety — sashimi, tempura, spicy fish stew, sushi, and more — which is great. Since we were already there, we thought we'd try a bit of everything, so we went with the set!

From basic side dishes to seaweed soup

The basic side dishes come out. There's a salad mix topped with a little sashimi, and mixing in a bit of chojang (vinegared chili sauce) made it really delicious. The pollack roe was also sweet in a way that really got my appetite going. A good fish restaurant in Guwol-dong needs to nail even these basics...

This is the kimchi pancake I made earlier at the self-bar (lol). It would've tasted better thinner, but I made it way too thick...

The seaweed soup was also delicious, so I kept spooning it up. For some reason, this kind of seaweed soup always hits the spot when I'm at a sashimi restaurant.

Freshly fried tempura and two pieces of sushi

First came the tempura! Freshly fried, so it was warm and really delicious. It included sweet pumpkin, shrimp, and sweet potato tempura, and freshly fried, still-warm tempura — need I say more, it was absolutely delicious...

The sushi came out as two pieces per person! The fish was thick and the rice (shari) was in great condition, so it was delicious. Above all, the quality of the sashimi was seriously impressive...

The main sashimi, just right for two

Finally, today's main dish — the sashimi — arrives!!

The sashimi came out in just the right amount for two! You could feel the chewy texture and freshness right from the first bite — Veteran General Fish Market Incheon Guwol Branch made me realize you don't need to go to a fish market to eat this well. There's a reason it's famous as a fish restaurant in Guwol-dong!!! As a rockfish lover, I really enjoyed the chewiness while eating it... The sashimi is fresh, it's tasty, and it's just amazing that you can enjoy this much variety for ₩19,900. It's genuinely delicious.

Sea cucumber, abalone, and sea squirt also came out together — I don't usually eat these much, but since they were so fresh, I kept reaching for them. My stomach was getting really full, but I still couldn't stop eating...

Finishing spicy fish stew with instant noodles

You can have the spicy fish stew right away or later once the meal has progressed — they ask you at the start, and since we said we'd have it at the end, this is the finishing stew we got! It's packed generously with fish and other ingredients... I get why they have so many regulars and repeat customers.

We grabbed the instant noodles from the self-bar and added them in while boiling — so, so good. At this price with this quality, I'm definitely coming back!! The staff were all so kind too, so it was a really pleasant meal overall. I personally think it'd be nice to bring my parents here next time.
