Build-your-own Harubang Sand box at Jeju Shilla Duty Free: Today Jeju

In short

Today Jeju Shilla Duty Free Shop Jeju Branch is a bakery in Jeju City selling desserts and travel gifts modeled on Jeju's dol hareubang (stone grandfather statues). I boxed up an 8-piece set of Harubangne madeleines, and for the Harubang Sand I could pick my own mix of citrus juice and Udo peanut flavors in a set of 8–10. Worth a stop if you want cute, individually wrapped desserts as a Jeju souvenir.

Today I want to introduce Today Jeju's signature dessert, Harubangne, from the shop on the basement floor of the duty-free building.

It's a cute dessert shaped like Jeju's iconic dol hareubang (stone grandfather statue), individually wrapped and boxed for easy snacking one at a time — great as a Jeju travel gift.

How do you find Today Jeju inside Jeju Shilla Duty Free?

Since the storefront is listed as "Today Jeju Shilla Duty Free branch," some people head for the main staircase into the duty-free entrance instead. Come in through the parking lot entrance and look across — you'll spot Today Jeju easily.

What the Today Jeju store looks like inside

Walk in and you're greeted by a Jeju-flavored interior and friendly staff.

Since the shop sits inside a duty-free store and Chinese visitors have been increasing lately, Chinese-language signage is easy to spot these days, wherever you go.

Harubangne and Harubang Sand: what Today Jeju sells

Option 1: the Harubangne madeleine version. It's Today Jeju's flagship product and comes boxed in sets of 4 or 8.

Option 2: a chocolate-coated version also exists, with the same 4- or 8-piece box options.

Each product keeps for 5–7 days, or up to about a month if frozen,

and you can buy by individual flavor, or mix the plain and chocolate versions together in one box.

Option 3: there's also a version filled with ang-butter.

Harubangne with ang-butter filling

Ang-butter is a mash-up word for red bean paste (ang-geum) plus butter — these days, every trendy Jeju bakery seems to have an ang-butter item on the menu.

Because the red bean paste can spoil, this version keeps for a shorter 1–2 days compared to the others.

Option 4: the Harubang Sand gift set.

You can build a set of 8–10 pieces with citrus juice and Udo peanut flavors in a half-half split.

Building Harubang Sand in your own flavor ratio

The nice part is you don't have to go exactly 5:5 — you can go 8:2, 6:4, whatever ratio matches your taste.

Packing and tasting the 8-piece Harubangne madeleine box

The 8-piece Harubangne madeleine box I brought home

What I packed to bring home was the 8-piece Harubangne madeleine set, with chocolate, baegnyeoncho (dragon fruit cactus), matcha, Earl Grey, carrot, black sesame, fig, and Hallabong tangerine — each piece a different flavor.

Snap the head part off and it breaks into bite-size pieces,

and since they're on the sweeter side, they taste even better paired with an Americano, tea, or plain milk.
