Why dol hareubang madeleines make a good Jeju souvenir
Today Jeju, inside Jeju Shilla Duty Free's Jeju branch, sits at 69 Noyeon-ro, 1st floor, Jeju City, Jeju, South Korea. It's a souvenir shop selling madeleines shaped like dol hareubang (stone grandfather statues) — I was so curious about the taste that I had to buy some.
Rather than the usual predictable Jeju gift, this felt refreshingly unique, and I liked that about it.
Jeju's dol hareubang meets madeleine: Harubangne. Gotta give them credit for the idea.

Today Jeju had two gift packages and I wondered what the difference was — turns out one has chocolate-coated flavors like chocolate, matcha, and prickly pear cactus, while the other is uncoated, with a softer madeleine texture. I'm on Team Plain.
What the Today Jeju shop looks like inside the duty free
The display, haha — so distinctly Jeju. Green grass and artificial stones set up like an actual dol hareubang habitat. By the way, there were so many Chinese customers inside.
Harubangne's 9 flavors and the Harubang Sand set
Harubangne comes in 9 flavors total. There's even an ang-butter (sweet red bean butter) version — pick whichever combo you like.
If you like coating, go for the coated ones (₩500–700 pricier); if you prefer plain, go plain.
There's a sand set too — stuffed generously with butter, more of a soft cookie feel.
Eating the plain madeleines with coffee at the hotel: the verdict
Shilla Duty Free wouldn't just let any brand in — and this is the big Shilla after all! Both the idea and the taste get a thumbs up from me.
Brought them back to the room and had them with coffee — delicious.
