Sun-dried tomato sandwich at Goyang bakery Boulangerie Tan

In short

Boulangerie Tan, Hyundai Department Store KINTEX is a bakery on basement level 1 of Hyundai Department Store's KINTEX branch in Goyang, Gyeonggi, opened by the bakery that first made its name in Chorongkkot Village in Unjeong. On a shopping trip the takeout picks were the sun-dried tomato sandwich, mini French baguette, chocolat baguette and glutinous rice salt bread, and the sandwich stood out for its bright sweet-tart tomato flavor. Boulangerie Tan is an easy stop for bread and coffee together before or after an event at KINTEX.

I was at Hyundai Department Store KINTEX and it felt like a waste to just walk past this place.

Boulangerie Tan, apparently a hot spot among bread lovers in Unjeong, turned out to have a branch here in Hyundai Department Store KINTEX too. It looked like a good spot to browse bread and grab a coffee while shopping, so I took my time looking around :)

You can pick up bread while shopping and take it to go, or sit at one of the tables set up in the store if you'd rather eat right away. Since it's inside the department store, it's an easy place to visit even on bad-weather days — that was a real plus.

It also caught my eye that Boulangerie Tan, known first as a bakery in Unjeong's Chorongkkot Village, has now opened here at Hyundai Department Store KINTEX.

If you're around KINTEX for shopping or an exhibition and looking for somewhere to eat, this is worth adding to your route.

What the store and seating are like

Walking in, the bread display catches your eye right away and naturally slows you down haha. There are so many varieties that I ended up browsing everything instead of just picking one.

From everyday favorites like salt bread and baguettes to sandwiches, there's a pretty wide range, so you can pick anything from a light snack to something more like a meal. There are also tables set up near the front of the store for eating in.

It's a good spot to sit down for a bit while shopping and enjoy some bread and coffee, and it's relaxed enough for a simple solo brunch too. They also sell drinks, so pairing bread with an americano or caffè latte works well.

So for anyone looking for a good café near KINTEX station, this seemed like a solid place to get bread and coffee sorted in one stop :)

What's on the menu at Boulangerie Tan?

Menu board showing bakery, sandwich and coffee items

Boulangerie Tan offers sandwiches and coffee alongside its bakery lineup. The items that stood out most to me were

  • 🥕 Carrot slaw chicken salt bread
  • 🍫 Chocolat baguette

and more. Even with just the salt bread, there were several combinations to choose from depending on your taste, and there's a sandwich-and-coffee set too, which looked good for a quick meal. With basic coffee options like americano and caffè latte, it's a good place either to take bread to go or eat in right away.

Personally, it's disappointing when a bakery has a limited range, but I liked that this place has both snack-style bread and options substantial enough for a meal.

🍅 Sun-dried tomato sandwich

One bite and you get that deep, sweet-tart flavor unique to sun-dried tomato, coming through gently. The tomato flavor is quite pronounced, but the cheese and mild filling balance it out into something smooth.

The bread isn't too dense, and the texture works well with the filling, so it holds up fine as a light meal. Even being a sandwich, the tomato gives it an overall refreshing feel that made it easy to eat without feeling heavy :)

🥖 Mini French baguette

Crisp on the outside, chewy and mild on the inside. The size isn't overwhelming, so it's easy to grab as a snack, and the more you chew, the more that nutty wheat bread flavor comes through.

The contrast between the crisp outside and chewy inside keeps it interesting on its own, and it paired really well with coffee ☕

🍫 Chocolat baguette

This one adds chocolate sweetness to the baguette's mild, chewy texture. Crisp outside, chewy inside, with pockets of sweet chocolate throughout — a definite change of pace from a regular baguette.

Chocolat baguette with chocolate pieces inside

Rather than tasting like a full-on sweet dessert, the mild bread base keeps it balanced, so it went well with coffee. Worth picking up if you like chocolate 😋

🧂 Glutinous rice salt bread

An interesting combination — the savory, salty flavor of salt bread paired with the chewy texture of glutinous rice cake. Slightly crisp outside and soft inside, the rice cake gives it a chewiness that builds the more you chew.

The buttery, mildly salty flavor is followed by the mild taste of the rice cake, and the two go together better than expected. If you want something a bit different from a plain salt bread, this is worth trying :)

Is Boulangerie Tan worth a stop at KINTEX?

Boulangerie Tan, Hyundai Department Store KINTEX felt like a solid bakery for enjoying bread and coffee while shopping. It was also nice to see that Boulangerie Tan, known first in Unjeong's Chorongkkot Village, is now here too.

Being on the basement level of the department store makes it easy to access, and it's convenient whether you want to take bread to go or eat right there. The range — from salt bread to baguettes to sandwiches — makes it easy to pick something for breakfast, brunch, or a snack depending on the moment.

It's an especially handy stop if you have plans at KINTEX or are shopping at Hyundai Department Store and get hungry — worth knowing about if you're hunting for a good bakery near KINTEX. It's a nice spot to pair bread and coffee for a quick break while shopping, or to grab something simple before or after an exhibition or event at KINTEX.

If you're looking for a bakery around Ilsan in Goyang, this is worth checking out at least once. I went in just to browse the bread for fun and ended up picking up a few things — I imagine plenty of people would do the same haha. Next time I'll come back and take my time with coffee too :)
