Morning oranda gift set, 3 for ₩10,000 at Jeju Dongmun Market

In short

Cheongchuni Oranda Dongmun Market Main Branch Tapdong is a souvenir shop in Jeju's Dongmun Market that makes handmade oranda (Korean puffed rice candy) and gwajul (fried dough confection) in-store. Visited on the last morning of a trip, the writer picked Udo peanut oranda, yuzu gwajul, and donut oranda, with single flavors sold 3 for ₩10,000. Soft, not-too-sweet texture made it a good fit for a parent gift.

Today I stopped by Cheongchuni Oranda Dongmun Market Main Branch Tapdong, a souvenir shop at Jeju's Dongmun Market.

A parent gift that isn't fish

Cheongchuni Oranda Dongmun Market Main Branch Tapdong is basically a must-buy souvenir at Jeju's Dongmun Market. You can park at the public parking lot.

Bringing fish home felt a bit heavy, so I was wondering what a thoughtful gift for my parents could be, and Cheongchuni Oranda caught my eye as I walked by. Every time I've come here it's always packed with customers and stands out. My parents especially love oranda, so I stopped in.

Is oranda even ready this early in the morning?

Even early in the morning, the oranda was already out. I stopped by on the last morning of my trip before heading back, and yes, you can buy it in the morning too. They were making it live inside, right in front of us! So many varieties, and they're not your average oranda but distinctive ones, which makes it feel like a thoughtful gift.

Let me show you the variety. This was still early in the day — apparently there's even more in the afternoon haha. Come afternoon, the place is always packed with customers. And the visuals are just overwhelming haha.

They also sell boxed gift sets, which makes Cheongchuni Oranda Dongmun Market Main Branch Tapdong a great pick for a Jeju Dongmun Market souvenir. Single-flavor oranda in various tastes can be bought 3 for ₩10,000. Next time I'll load up on gamtae and Udo peanut for sure! For gifts, the boxed sets are nice too since they come with variety and the packaging looks pretty!

Jeju specialty: yuzu gwajul

Gwajul (fried dough confection) is a Jeju specialty. The yuzu version has a subtle yuzu fragrance, isn't too sweet, and has a chewy texture. I'd only ever bought pre-packaged gwajul before, so this was my first time trying a handmade version. It looked like it would be really good haha.

The signature donut oranda

On the left is the signature menu item at Cheongchuni Oranda Dongmun Market Main Branch Tapdong: donut oranda. Shaped like a donut with various chocolate coatings, it's a unique oranda that looks pretty and seems like it would taste great too. If you visit Dongmun Market, definitely try this one. It looks like it would photograph beautifully too. I'd never seen visuals like this — the chocolate coating is so pretty.

The single-flavor oranda lineup

The single-flavor oranda comes in a huge variety too: yuzu, Udo peanut, gamtae, mixed nuts, manong (garlic). Each has a different price, but buy 3 and it's ₩10,000. I grabbed the Udo peanut one since it seemed like something my parents would like haha. The peanuts were packed all through the oranda.

There are also boxed packages, so if you want something gift-ready, the box packaging looks great, give it a try! I put together Udo peanut, yuzu gwajul, and oranda.

Opening the yuzu gwajul first at the airport

Waiting at the airport with my Cheongchuni Oranda Dongmun Market Main Branch Tapdong souvenirs, I couldn't resist unwrapping one hahaha. I decided to try the yuzu gwajul first. It's even better that there are so many flavors to choose from.

Once I cut it in half, the stickiness was no joke. Chewy and crisp with the yuzu fragrance rising up, making it even tastier. Not too sweet, so I think my parents will like it even more!

With this choice, the oranda itself was so soft and chewy that even a light press sinks right in haha. Hard oranda can hurt your jaw, so the softness of this handmade version feels like a big advantage.

My parents' reaction

My parents loved the Cheongchuni Oranda Dongmun Market Main Branch Tapdong souvenirs and said they were so delicious. Little by little they disappeared in no time. If you stop by Dongmun Market, make sure to get a gift for your parents!!
