Jeju Dongmun Market snack shop for early-morning bulk bags with kids

Hi, this is Eunjaemaeng-mom. My family took a 3-night, 4-day trip to Jeju in late August ^^ Before the real sightseeing began, we stopped by Dongmun Market to look around with the kids.

Where is Cheongchuni Oranda inside Jeju's Dongmun Market?

Cheongchuni Oranda Dongmun Market Main Branch Tapdong is at 6-8 Dongmun-ro, Jeju-si, 1st floor, close to Gate 2 and Gate 9 of Dongmun Market. It's open daily from 09:00 to 20:00, so we were able to stop by even in the quiet early morning market.

We stopped in our tracks in front of the oranda shop the kids adore.

The name is brilliant, haha. Jeju Dongmun Market favorite Cheongchuni Oranda seems to be a place with a wide range of choices — not just oranda, but gwajul (a crunchy rice-puff snack) in various flavors and donut-shaped oranda too.

The owner was so kind, explaining the flavors and encouraging us to sample everything, so we tried and enjoyed it all without any hesitation. The first stop of our Jeju trip felt so fun, delicious, and warmly welcoming, it put us in a great mood.

Oranda prices and the free tasting counter

Cheongchuni Oranda's oranda sells for ₩10,000 for 3 individually wrapped pieces, or ₩3,000–4,000 each. With a sample counter on hand, we tasted our way through to find the kids' favorite flavor.

The kids' top pick: yuzu oranda

For my kids, yuzu was the top pick for both the gwajul and the oranda at Cheongchuni Oranda. The subtle yuzu aroma isn't too sweet, and it gives a refreshing lift to the flavor.

How the oranda tastes: light and pillowy

The oranda isn't hard at all — it's soft and fluffy. It's not the same as being soggy, it's genuinely fluffy in a way that's hard to describe. ^^ Bottom line: it's just really delicious! And it doesn't stick to your teeth either, which is a bonus.

Udo peanut, gamtae and other flavors, plus gift boxes

You can also get these pretty, Instagram-worthy oranda coated in various flavors. The Udo peanut oranda was nutty and really delicious, and the gamtae (seaweed) flavor oranda looks pretty and gives off a healthy vibe that makes it stand out.

Traditional snacks like yakgwa (honey cookie) and gaeseong jujak are trending these days, right? This oranda, too, has a pleasant, non-overwhelming sweetness with that soft texture — it'd make a great snack for kids and a great drinking snack for adults alike. It also works well as a gift, whether you go for the boxed gift sets or the individually wrapped pieces you can share one at a time without any pressure — just pick based on your taste.

Snacking on oranda in the car and at the hotel

The bulk oranda and gwajul we bought at Cheongchuni Oranda were exactly what we nibbled on the whole trip, in the car and back at the hotel. The sweetness wasn't too much, and once you picked one up, you couldn't stop.

It also pairs perfectly with beer, so I think I ate more of it than the kids did. Lol. Instead of the typical, predictable Jeju souvenir snacks, these distinctive local Jeju desserts — yuzu, Udo peanut, and the like — will earn you compliments for having good taste if you give them as gifts. ^^

You could do what we did: head straight to Dongmun Market right after landing at Jeju Airport, pick up snacks to your taste, and enjoy them throughout the trip.

They also had bulk packaging like this, so it was great being able to enjoy delicious oranda and gwajul at such reasonable prices. Honestly, I hadn't eaten much gwajul before — the only time was tasting some at a souvenir shop during last year's Jeju trip — but this had that rice-puff feel with a distinctive dessert character that suited my taste perfectly. The kids said they liked the oranda better, though.
