Yangsan bakery café for sopa croissant and airy-cano: Choi Main Branch

Choi Main Branch is a Nakdong River-view bakery café in Hopo, Yangsan, that carries on the same baking as Haewoldang under a new name. Café Choi in Hopo, Yangsan — I've lost count of how many times I've been! I used to visit often back when it was called Haewoldang, but this time it's changed its name to Choi. Here's my review from another coffee date with my husband, enjoying delicious bakery treats together :)
Choi Main Branch in Hopo, Yangsan: the same bakery, renamed from Haewoldang
Choi Main Branch carries on the flavor and care that started with Haewoldang, continuing under the name Choi Main Branch. Only the name has changed — the bread tastes exactly the same as before! Both bakery items and drinks can be ordered on the 1st floor; you carry your bread up to the 2nd floor to grab a seat, then pick up your drink there.
What is parking like at Choi Main Branch?
Parking is available both inside and outside the building, quite spacious — but on weekends it can feel packed, since so many people come here. It's a popular café!
Inside the 1st-floor bakery: fig desserts to salt bread
The 1st floor is where you'll find a huge bakery selection! There are so many kinds that every visit I end up debating what to get — that's what a Yangsan café should be.
Starting with the fig cake you can only get in summer, there's chocolate roll, baguette, streusel bread, and more — bakery items for all ages to enjoy.
I especially noticed desserts with that trendy crackly-crunch texture like wakku balls, plus desserts loaded with fig.
There are also salads, sandwiches, and kids' drinks for a light meal.
There's a wide variety of salt breads too, along with simple but clean-tasting options like corn bread and kkwabaegi (twisted doughnut) — I thought this would be a great place to bring parents.
Signature Hae-reul Pumeun Dal and the new sopa croissant
Café Choi's signature bread is Hae-reul Pumeun Dal ("moon holding the sun")! The sun- and moon-shaped breads are apparently only available at Choi Hopo. On top of that, the new sopa croissant this time was too cute to pass up..🧡 So yes, I definitely picked one up — no secret there.

Picked out our bread and ordered drinks too! I noticed they had airy-cano this time, so out of curiosity I ordered that as well.

2nd-floor seats with Nakdong River window views
Head up to the 2nd floor and you're greeted with a real sense of openness from the floor-to-ceiling windows, plus a variety of seating options. We visited after lunch on a weekday, and the window seats with the good view were almost full!
You can see the Nakdong River right from here, so it seemed like a great spot to spend time enjoying dessert.
Aside from those, there are group tables as well as quieter seats for two to sit and chat softly — worth noting :)
Also, near the elevator on the 2nd floor there's a microwave and a self-service packing station, so be sure to wrap up any leftover bread to take home :)
The 3rd-floor rooftop is a no-kids zone
The rooftop is also famous at Café Choi in Hopo. Visit around sunset and you can enjoy a gorgeous sunset view — for safety reasons, the 3F rooftop operates as a no-kids zone.
Being able to enjoy the riverview along with a stunning sunset — with the weather cooling down these days, I think the 3F would be a great place to spend time too :)
How do the airy-cano and green onion salt bread taste?
The bakery items arrived first — despite already having eaten lunch, we ordered three breads haha..
We paired them with a refreshing iced americano and a syrup-free airy-cano.
The rich coffee flavor came through smoothly, and even the coffee foam had a nutty taste — I could see why people add syrup. Personally I don't like syrup in my coffee so I skipped it, but I thought I'd like to try it with syrup next time.
No need to say more about the bread at Choi Main Branch — the red bean and chocolate cream fillings are so well balanced, perfect with coffee! Especially the green onion salt bread — sweet and salty with the scent of green onion spreading through — I never got tired of eating it.
Is Choi Main Branch in Hopo worth a return visit?
Choi Main Branch is already the place that comes to mind when I think of Yangsan cafés — I've visited so many times now with my husband and daughter. This time I got to try a unique airy-cano and enjoy the riverview on a date with just my husband, after a while :)
