Whenever I come to Jeju, black pork and meat noodle soup are two things I eat again and again, haha. Black pork isn’t that common once you leave the island, so I just keep eating it, haha. I visited Pork80 near Jeju Airport and enjoyed its Nanchuk Matdon black pork.

The tables were roomy, the space was divided up nicely while still feeling clean, and it was convenient that the restroom was inside.

The grilling service is only offered with an order of Nanchuk Matdon. I visited at lunch when it was quiet, so I received the service, but they said they may not be able to grill the meat during busy times.

Guide to enjoying Nanchuk Matdon

I ordered the Nanchuk Matdon and read through the guide on how to enjoy it.

Table setting

Fresh kimchi, pickled perilla leaves, onion soy sauce, corn, shredded radish salad, scallion salad, and seasoned raw crab came out.

The meat came with chopped scallions, and each piece was incredibly thick. The black pork looked moist, glossy, and beautifully colored even before cooking.

Pork80 uses charcoal grilling, so good charcoal comes out, and once they put the meat on the grill, they cook it from start to finish. Personally, I find it easy to cook beef myself, but it is definitely more convenient when someone grills pork for you. They grilled it perfectly, so all I had to do was eat—it was really convenient.

Usually you get meljeot, a Jeju salted anchovy sauce, but Pork80 gives you a generous serving of meljorim, a braised anchovy dip. There are anchovies in it, but tofu too, haha. It was not salty, so it tasted best when I dipped the meat right in.

Even though the heat was fairly high, it cooked evenly golden without burning. Despite how thick each piece was, they cooked it beautifully.

I tried a piece of meat on its own, generously dipped in the meljorim. They give you salt too, but I personally liked the meljorim much more than the salt. It was delicious without any overly fishy flavor, haha.

They also grilled the scallions over the charcoal really well without burning them. They set the cooked meat to the side so it stays warm. I liked that I could eat slowly instead of rushing. Each piece was thick, so you could really taste all the juices of the black pork belly.

It was delicious even with just a little wasabi,

and it was tasty wrapped with the scallion salad that came as a side dish too.

The meat was tender, so the kids ate it well too, haha. My niece or nephew enjoyed it as well, hahaha. The area around Jeju Airport in Nohyeong-dong is downtown, so driving around is what I worry about most, but the easy parking was really nice. With the grilling service and delicious meat too, I was very satisfied, haha.
