Whenever the weather turns chilly or I start craving a hot, deeply flavored broth, kalguksu is one of the first dishes that comes to mind. I was out grocery shopping recently and stopped by a popular restaurant near Korean Folk Village with a friend for dinner. The clean broth and generous spread kept us happy throughout the meal.

A Kalguksu Restaurant Near Korean Folk Village with Easy Parking
We visited Yubok Kalguksu Yongin Korean Folk Village Branch, just over five minutes by car from Korean Folk Village. There is a spacious parking area right in front, which made it really convenient to visit by car. It was perfectly located for a stop before or after an outing at Korean Folk Village, or after shopping nearby.

One major plus was that there is no break time, so we could drop in without worry even in that awkward late-afternoon window. Once inside, it felt much larger than it looked from outside, and the floor-to-ceiling windows gave it a wonderfully open feel. The tables were generously spaced too, making it a comfortable setting for families dining with children. They also offer free children's rice for kids aged 7 and under, so that is good to know if you are visiting with little ones.
What Comes with the Pufferfish Seafood Kalguksu Set
After looking over the menu, we ordered two servings of the signature Pufferfish Seafood Kalguksu Set at ₩15,000 per person. Along with the main pufferfish seafood kalguksu, the set comes with a tasting portion of fire-grilled webfoot octopus and barley rice, making it a seriously satisfying spread.

After ordering, fresh geotjeori kimchi and cubed radish kimchi arrived as the basic side dishes. There is a self-service bar, so you can freely refill any side dishes you need. Kimchi is one of the most important things at a kalguksu restaurant, and the spicy, crisp geotjeori was an excellent match for the noodle broth.

First, we mixed the barley rice with fragrant sesame oil and seasoned sauce, and it really got our appetites going. The tasting portion of fire-grilled webfoot octopus that followed had such a lovely smoky aroma and delightfully chewy texture that the word “tasting” felt almost misleading. Its sweet-spicy seasoning went beautifully with the barley rice. The octopus pieces were especially plump, which made them even more delicious.
A Clear, Deep Broth Made with Pufferfish and Seafood
Finally, the main pufferfish seafood kalguksu arrived on a burner. What sets Yubok Kalguksu apart is its especially clear yet deep broth, generously filled with fresh seafood such as pufferfish, oysters, and clams. As it began bubbling away, the gentle seafood aroma stirred up our appetites.

Once the broth had developed fully, we lifted out the noodles and dug in. The hand-cut kalguksu noodles had that wonderful chewiness all the way through, staying springy rather than turning soft even until the last bite. Perhaps because of the pufferfish, the very first sip of broth burst with savory flavor and felt incredibly soothing. With none of that greasy or murky taste, the broth finished so cleanly that I kept marveling at it and drinking more.
It was not just about the noodles: adding the large pieces of seafood and nicely ripened kimchi meant we cleared the bowl in no time. True to its reputation as a good restaurant near Korean Folk Village, it was a generous meal where the freshness of the ingredients came through clearly.
Finishing with Ppeongtwigi and Freshly Ground Coffee
The dessert area had savory, crisp ppeongtwigi (puffed grain snack) as well as fragrant Starbucks whole-bean coffee, which made for a perfect finish. After our meal, we picked up some ppeongtwigi beside the self-service bar and paired it with a freshly brewed warm Starbucks coffee. It almost felt as though we had taken care of café time in one go, too.

After the spicy, refreshing kalguksu, these thoughtful details made it possible to cleanse the palate with a nutty dessert and end the meal feeling good right to the last moment.
For anyone who finds a bowl of kalguksu alone a little lacking, the Pufferfish Seafood Kalguksu Set is an excellent choice, offering webfoot octopus and barley rice as part of a full course. If you are craving a deeply flavored broth that will soothe you from the inside out, I definitely recommend stopping by.
It is also great for a walk around the nearby folk village right after eating, while the easy parking and convenient setup make it ideal for a drive-out stop as well. I recommend Yubok Kalguksu if you want a warm, substantial meal. The portions were generous and we really enjoyed it. The staff were especially kind, too :)
