Weekday afternoon Korean BBQ with beef skirt at Gogikkun Gimchunbae

In short

Gogikkun Gimchunbae Hongdae Supgil Branch is a window-side Korean BBQ restaurant right on the Gyeongui Line Forest Park in Hongdae, Seoul, with an outdoor-terrace feel. Visiting on a weekday around 2-3pm after a workout, the writer ordered the beef and pork 2-person set (600g) for ₩109,000, half-and-half naengmyeon, and kkakdugi fried rice, with the day's beef cut being beef skirt (salchisal). Staff grilled everything start to finish, and the window seat breeze made the meal satisfying even without alcohol.

Did everyone feel it? That autumn breeze...!!! Clear skies plus cool morning-and-evening wind combo lately, gets me excited just standing still.

Weather like this makes you want a terrace or an outdoor-seating spot even more, so after a workout date with a friend, we went to get some protein in and visited Gogikkun Gimchunbae, a forest-path BBQ spot by the Gyeongui Line Forest Park where you can enjoy beef and pork together.

The staff grilled everything for us, which was super convenient, and eating while looking at the green forest path with the breeze blowing made it taste even better, I think.

Hours, location, and parking info

Open daily 12:00–23:00, last order 22:00. No break time, so it's great that you can eat even at an awkward hour!

I visited on a weekday around two or three in the afternoon, a really awkward time, after working out with a friend, but two or three other tables were already grilling meat, haha.

There's no parking lot, so you have to park nearby — we used the "Sinchon public outdoor parking lot"!

It's right on the Gyeongui Line Forest Park, so my mood lifts just from the walk there.

The ⭐️best thing⭐️ about Gogikkun Gimchunbae Hongdae Supgil Branch is that there are plenty of window seats where you can eat while looking along the forest path. You can feel the breeze gently blowing and eat with that outdoor-terrace feeling — the seats are just the best...❤ We reserved ahead and they guided us to exactly this spot.

Inside, a meat fridge catches your eye, and it's a relaxed atmosphere with drum-can chair seating. On one wall they've stuck up movie posters with some style, haha.

What we ordered and the menu

I'd visited other Gogikkun Gimchunbae branches before, like the Jonggak location, but back then we mainly ate pork. This time we had the set mixing beef and pork, and I was surprised the beef was so much tastier than I expected!! I'd recommend the beef and pork set.

Here's what we ordered

  • Beef and pork 2-person set (600g) ₩109,000
  • Half-and-half naengmyeon ₩7,000
  • Kkakdugi (diced radish kimchi) fried rice ₩8,000
  • Total ₩124,000

The beef and pork 2-person set is pork neck 250g + pork short rib meat 200g + today's beef 150g, about 1 geun (600g) total, and that day the beef portion included beef skirt (salchisal)! Apparently the beef cut changes depending on what's good that day.

Basic side dishes including myeongi namul and pickled onions

The basic side dish setup: myeongi namul (mountain garlic leaves), pickled onions, and seasoned bean sprouts. Sauces are garlic sauce, ssamjang, salt, and galchi sokjeot (fermented hairtail innards).

The meat set arrived. Look at the marbling on that beef skirt. I like beef but it can feel too rich to eat much, so mixing it with pork like this was great 🐷🐮

For side vegetables, you get a set of three mushrooms and minari (water dropwort).

Staff-grilled beef skirt

It was so nice not having to grill it myself — the staff grilled everything from start to finish!! The skirt steak was tender and tasted amazing...❤ I thought Gogikkun Gimchunbae was known for pork, but turns out the beef is delicious too!!

It's nice that you can order the naengmyeon as a half-and-half mix without choosing between the spicy and water types, haha.

Putting meat on top of the naengmyeon reminded me of the yuksam naengmyeon I used to eat in college, haha, but now that I'm a working adult, it's skirt steak on top instead ^^

After the beef, they bring out the pork. The ribs come on the bone and the pork neck was nice and thick — decent quality.

The weather was fantastic the whole time we ate, ugh. I'm cutting back on drinking these days and my friend is pregnant, so we toasted with water, but on a summer or autumn night, clinking a beer here would feel amazing.

At the end, we grilled up minari and kimchi and ate those neatly too.

For two people, order only one of naengmyeon or fried rice

Honestly, we were already really full just from the meat for two people! But on the owner's recommendation we also had the kkakdugi fried rice, and that made us extremely full, haha. Next time if I come again with two people, I think ordering just one of the fried rice or naengmyeon would be the perfect amount.

After eating, we walked along the forest path to a café called La Foresta, and the relaxed vibe, friendly owner, and good coffee made it a great combo visit too~
