Gochu ganjajang dinner at Marine City ocean-view Chinese: Bueokgan

In short

Bueokgan Chinese Marine City Branch is an ocean-view Chinese restaurant on the second floor above Subyeon Choego Pork Gukbap on Marine City 3-ro in Haeundae, Busan. At a dinner visit, the order went in by table order — gochu ganjajang (spicy black bean noodles) at 10,000 won, woo samgyeop beef jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup with beef brisket) at 12,000 won and jalapeño cream shrimp at 22,000 won — eaten facing the sea, and a receipt photo review earns free eohyang mandu (fish-flavor dumplings). A solid choice when you want a Haeundae Chinese restaurant with a view and a calm mood.

Today I was looking for a Chinese restaurant with a nice atmosphere in Busan and ended up at Bueokgan Chinese in Marine City haha😄 I usually think of Chinese restaurants as casual places to grab jajangmyeon or jjamppong, but this place felt a bit different from that the moment I walked in.

Where is Bueokgan Chinese Marine City Branch, and what are the hours?

Bueokgan Chinese Marine City Branch is on the 2nd floor above Suybeon Choego Pork Gukbap, at 51 Marine City 3-ro, Haeundae-gu, Busan. It's open daily 11:00–22:00, with a break time from 15:30–17:00, and last order at 20:30.

Suybeon Choego Pork Gukbap is on the 1st floor, and Bueokgan Chinese is on the 2nd floor. There's an elevator right at the entrance, and stairs to the left of it if you'd rather walk up.

What the Marine City ocean view looks like from the evening window seats

Another thing I liked about Bueokgan Chinese Marine City Branch was the atmosphere. It's clean and upscale overall, so it works well for family meals, dates, or gatherings — more like a Chinese restaurant with atmosphere than your typical corner Chinese place.

But what I liked most was that, being in Marine City, you can eat while looking out at the ocean. It was evening so the view was a bit muted, but eating Chinese food while looking out at the wide-open sea through the window still felt different from the usual jajangmyeon or jjamppong experience. On a nice day, I imagine it'd be even better for anyone looking for an ocean-view restaurant in Haeundae or Marine City.

Does Bueokgan Chinese have a private room?

There's also a private room space in the back, which seemed good for family gatherings, meals with parents, or group get-togethers. Having a room option is a quiet perk on days you want a calm meal or an important sit-down. Worth keeping in mind if you're looking for a gathering spot around Haeundae or Marine City.

Ordering is convenient with table order. Here's what I ordered that day✨

  • Gochu ganjajang (spicy black bean noodles) ₩10,000
  • Woo samgyeop beef jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup with beef brisket) ₩12,000
  • Jalapeño cream shrimp ₩22,000
  • Coca-Cola Zero can ₩2,500

First, the basics arrived — pickled radish, jjachai (pickled mustard tuber), and barley tea.

Noodles and sauce for the gochu ganjajang

Ganjajang has that fun freshly-stir-fried black bean sauce flavor. If you like it a bit spicier and stronger than regular jajangmyeon, this gochu ganjajang fits the bill. I mixed the sauce thoroughly into the noodles and took a bite — the umami of the black bean sauce came through together with the spicy kick, so it wasn't heavy or greasy at all.

Sometimes jajangmyeon at Chinese restaurants gets too sweet or heavy after a few bites, but this gochu ganjajang had that spicy edge that kept it enjoyable all the way through.

And you can't skip jjamppong at a Chinese restaurant. I ordered the woo samgyeop beef jjamppong. Unlike a regular seafood jjamppong, this one has beef brisket in it, so the broth had a richer, heavier flavor. Taking a sip of the hot broth and then eating the noodles with the brisket together — that combo really works for jjamppong. I especially liked how the spicy broth and the savory brisket came through together.

If the jajangmyeon is on the spicy-savory side, the woo samgyeop beef jjamppong is spicy-rich and deep, so ordering both to share was great. If you're visiting as a pair, I'd recommend one jajang and one jjamppong to split.

Of everything I had that day, the jalapeño cream shrimp personally stood out the most. You usually think of cream shrimp as sweet and mild, but adding jalapeño gives it a spicy kick. The shrimp were fried crispy and coated in cream sauce, with bursts of jalapeño spice in between, so it was less greasy than I expected.

It paired well with the noodle dishes like jajang or jjamppong. If you're visiting in a group, I'd recommend adding a dish like this to share instead of only ordering noodle dishes. If you like cream shrimp but find it too sweet or heavy sometimes, the jalapeño cream shrimp is worth trying.

A dinner made special by the Haeundae sea view

Personally, what I liked most that day wasn't just the food but being able to eat while looking at the sea. Even the same jajangmyeon or jjamppong feels different depending on where you eat it, and eating while looking out at the Marine City sea definitely felt different from usual.

So I thought this place suits people looking for a Haeundae or Marine City Chinese restaurant with a nice atmosphere more than just a place to fill up. It's good for a date and also fine to visit with family. It'd also work well as part of a course — eat here near Marine City, then walk along the seaside or hit up a café afterward.

What I liked most about this place was the combination of Marine City ocean view, upscale Chinese food, and a private room. Next time I'd like to try the tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork) or other dishes I didn't get to this time :) If you're looking for a Chinese restaurant with a nice atmosphere in Haeundae, Busan, or a place in Marine City to eat while looking at the sea, save this one and give it a visit💕
