Gwangjin café with quiet work seats and croissants: Stack Bakery

This time, I heard there was one of Seoul’s best croissant spots, so I headed over absolutely brimming with anticipation. As a bread lover, I simply couldn’t pass it by, so I hurried over—and to give you the conclusion first, I came back having met a seriously wonderful croissant. I thought it was a takeaway-only shop, but it had a hidden surprise too, so I had to introduce it.

Even before going in, there was a sign saying it ranked among Seoul’s best croissants, so my expectations were sky-high. Hehe.

Which bread should I choose?

The croissant was, of course, the most famous item. But there were so many kinds of bread besides croissants that I really agonized over what to pick. Prices started at ₩4,000 and went into the ₩5,000 range. I ordered a croissant and pain au chocolat.

Upstairs seating too good for just grabbing takeaway

Originally, I was just planning to get a light takeaway to eat at home. Since everyone said it was a great spot, I thought I’d just taste the bread and leave, so honestly, I wasn’t expecting much from the upstairs seating. But after ordering and heading up, I found the upstairs area much roomier and neater than I expected!

It had such a quiet atmosphere that it looked genuinely great for bringing a laptop and getting a little work done. It’s rare to find a Konkuk University-area café that gives you both delicious bread and comfortable seating—I felt like I’d struck gold.

I sat by the big window and enjoyed my bread at a leisurely pace.

The definition of crisp outside, soft inside: pain au chocolat and croissant

This time, I ordered an Americano, pain au chocolat, and a classic croissant—those two pastries.

The pain au chocolat was so, so crisp on the outside that the sound with every bite was no joke.

The outside was crisp enough to crumble away, while the inside held moist, sweet chocolate, and I was honestly amazed. It wasn’t merely sweet—the chocolate paired with a refined buttery flavor, making it an absolutely killer match with an Americano.

Then I tried the croissant, and it truly felt packed all the way through without any empty gaps. It wasn’t just glossy on the outside; the interior’s layers were properly distinct, so the nuttiness burst out more and more as I chewed.

The moment I took a bite, I immediately understood why people call it one of Seoul’s best croissant spots. Maybe they use great butter, because there was no heavy, greasy aftertaste—just a clean finish—which made me love it even more. It would be sooo good split in half and made into a sandwich too, sob.

I was so satisfied that, while paying and leaving, I quietly regretted not packing a few more for my family or friends. Next time, I’m definitely coming back to work my way through the other pastry menu items!
