Today I'm bringing you a review of a place I visited for a proper beef meal after a while — Yakiniku Pungyeong in Poil-dong, Uiwang 🥩

Exterior of Yakiniku Pungyeong in Poil-dong, Uiwang

This is a Japanese-style charcoal grill restaurant that's been running since 2012, and it kept popping up whenever I searched for good beef spots near Indeogwon Station. I'd been curious about it for a while, so this time I went with my boyfriend haha

  • Naver Reservation available

Where is Yakiniku Pungyeong, and is there parking?

Yakiniku Pungyeong is located in a residential area of Poil-dong, Uiwang. Parking fits about four to five cars in front, so I parked without any trouble.

The exterior already gives off Japanese yakiniku vibes, and visiting in the evening made the atmosphere feel even better. It's not a huge, flashy place — more of a cozy spot perfect for enjoying charcoal-grilled meat. It seemed like a good fit for a date, a family meal out, or a small gathering.

Inside Yakiniku Pungyeong: the window seats facing the park

Inside Yakiniku Pungyeong, each table has some separation from the next, so I liked that I didn't feel like I had to be conscious of the neighboring table. Once you step inside, the Japanese charcoal grill feel is strong.

It's especially a good atmosphere for chatting while eating meat, so it was nice to visit with my boyfriend just the two of us haha

And when we arrived, they seated us at the spot with the best view! It was a window seat with a park right in front, and the view was really great 🌿 The weather happened to be cool and pleasant too, so it felt like eating on a terrace — I loved it haha

Grilling meat over charcoal while the outside air drifted in felt different from your usual meat restaurant experience. We got such a good seat that day that between the taste of the meat and the atmosphere, we really enjoyed the whole experience 🤍

Yakiniku Pungyeong's menu is, of course, beef-focused! Signature items include wagyu beef tongue, snowflake rib meat, skirt steak, and flower rib meat, plus dishes like raw hanwoo (Korean beef) mungtigi and yukhoe (beef tartare). Side dishes that pair well with the meat are also plentiful — doenjang jjigae, ramen, butter scallops and more. For anyone who wants to eat meat and proper sides too, the menu lineup seemed pretty solid.

You could order via QR code, which was convenient.

Our total came to ₩99,000!

  • ✔️ Wagyu beef tongue ₩35,000
  • ✔️ Marinated short rib ₩23,000 x 2
  • ✔️ Doenjang jjigae ₩6,000
  • ✔️ Rice ₩1,000
  • ✔️ Green tangerine highball ₩9,000
  • ✔️ Zero-sugar cola ₩2,000

For two people eating meat plus sides, it was just the right amount to be full.

Wagyu premium beef tongue: thick-cut and juicy

Yakiniku Pungyeong's wagyu beef tongue (₩35,000) comes in thick cuts! I was expecting thinly sliced tongue, but the thickness meant that grilled over charcoal, the texture was great.

Not overcooked, just grilled the right amount — it was chewy and savory. If you like beef tongue, this is worth trying here.

Eating it with the pickled scallion side that came with the set was seriously delicious 😋 Personally, this was one of the most memorable dishes of the day‼️

Marinated premium short rib for two

And then the marinated short rib (₩23,000)! We ordered two servings.

Two servings of grilled marinated short rib

The second it hit the charcoal, the marinade's aroma burst out and it really felt like eating proper meat haha. The seasoning wasn't overly sweet, and grilling it over charcoal added a savory depth that made it delicious.

We ordered two servings, and it was a good amount for the two of us to share alongside everything else. Beef really is best grilled over charcoal...🥩

Doenjang jjigae and a bowl of rice

Doenjang jjigae and rice ordered alongside the meat

You can't eat meat without rice, so we also ordered doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew, ₩6,000) and rice (₩1,000). After eating meat nonstop, a spoonful of doenjang jjigae hit the spot perfectly haha.

Inside the doenjang jjigae, packed with meat

And the stew had plenty of meat in it too, which I completely recommend. I'm the type who feels a meal isn't complete unless I eat rice along with the meat, so I recommend this combo.

Green tangerine highball

We also ordered a green tangerine highball (₩9,000), which was great to drink alongside the meat. It was sweet and refreshing, pairing well with the rich meat — exactly my style. If you like drinking, try ordering one with your meat haha

Complimentary dishes and the lucky-draw event

Tomato served as complimentary service
Melon served as complimentary service
Canapés served as complimentary service

And the service here was seriously generous ㅜㅜ It didn't feel like just eating meat and being done — in between, they kept bringing out tomato, melon, canapés and more, so on top of good food, the extra care raised our overall satisfaction 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Sign explaining the restaurant's lucky-draw event

And that wasn't the end — they were also running a lucky-draw event! We did a draw during the meal, and first and second prizes were discount vouchers, while fourth and fifth prizes let you choose a yukhoe (beef tartare) gamtae (seaweed) rice ball or a drink.

But funnily enough haha, my boyfriend and I both got fifth place haha So we both chose the yukhoe gamtae rice ball!

Yukhoe gamtae rice ball won from the lucky draw

Thanks to that, we ended up getting two free rice balls on top of the side dish we were originally going to order 🤭 Finishing the meal with a rice ball packed with seaweed and yukhoe was just perfect.

Final complimentary dish of dried persimmon cheese rolls

And the endless service continued... last but not least, dried persimmon cheese rolls!🥹 Is the owner an angel?🪽 There was fun in doing the draw, and getting a prize on top of it made these little touches feel especially nice haha. Great seats plus a lucky-draw event on top — the service at Yakiniku Pungyeong was truly generous overall! 🥩🤍

Final verdict: who should book Yakiniku Pungyeong?

Overall, Yakiniku Pungyeong is a place I'd recommend when you're craving beef with plenty of charcoal aroma! The restaurant is clean and the seating is comfortable, so it seemed like a good fit for dates, family dinners, or work gatherings too. Above all, since it's a yakiniku-style place where you grill the meat yourself over charcoal, meat lovers should be very satisfied.

That day I went with the combo of wagyu beef tongue plus marinated short rib, and both were delicious. The generous service also made the meal feel great from start to finish haha. Next time I want to try some of the other specialty cuts haha

Shazam search result for the song playing in the restaurant

There was also music playing that had a strong Japanese feel. I looked it up using Shazam, and here's the song haha

For anyone looking for a good beef restaurant near Indeogwon Station, or a great-atmosphere meat spot in Poil-dong, Uiwang — highly recommend! 🥩🤍
