In short

Min Cook Dasima is a Baekyeon Gagye and Blue Ribbon-listed Japanese restaurant near Hwajeong Station in Goyang, Gyeonggi. Visiting at 5:30pm, the writer tried the sushi set meal (9-piece assorted sushi, Japanese-style steamed egg, fried shrimp, braised fish) and the summer-only soba sushi set meal, noting that the sushi set meal gets a ₩6,000 discount on weekdays. This place is a Baekyeon Gagye ("Hundred-Year Store") and has even received a Blue Ribbon award. Maybe that's why, even at around 5:30pm, there were quite a lot of customers!

A spacious restaurant, great for solo dining too

One thing I'd recommend about this place near Hwajeong Station is that the interior is really spacious, so it's great for eating alone! Most tables seat four, so even if you come as a pair, you can sit comfortably with plenty of room.

When you walk in, the menu can be checked via QR code. Scanning the Toss QR code let me browse the menu easily.

Sushi menu near Hwajeong Station

Min Cook Dasima had quite a variety of menu options. The signature dishes included handmade egg sushi, special assorted sushi, and raw salmon rice bowl. On top of that, there's a sushi set meal too, which looked like a good pick when you want a filling meal. They also have other options like sashimi rice bowl, so keep that in mind!

Looking through the sushi menu near Hwajeong Station, I picked the sushi set meal, and my boyfriend ordered the newly released soba sushi set meal! By the way, the soba sushi set meal is apparently a summer-only item.

Why I recommend it: the set composition and weekday discount

Set meal composition with sushi, egg custard, and fried items

The biggest reason I recommend Min Cook Dasima is the composition of the meal. It's not just plain sushi — it comes with Japanese-style steamed egg custard and fried items too, making the meal quite filling.

If cost-effectiveness matters when looking for a good meal near Hwajeong Station, the weekday discount is worth noting. In particular, the sushi set meal gets a ₩6,000 discount on weekdays. The raw salmon rice bowl set gets ₩3,000 off, and the tuna sashimi rice bowl and soba sushi set meal each get ₩3,000 off too.

Evening review: the sushi set meal

First, when I arrived to eat, they served a pre-meal drink called egg porridge (gyeranjuk). It had a sweet yet savory taste that soothed my empty stomach nicely.

Sushi set meal

Table setting for the 9-piece assorted sushi set meal

Of course I tried the sushi set meal at this sushi spot near Hwajeong Station. It came with 9 pieces of assorted sushi, salad, and braised fish.

These are the 9 types of assorted sushi. Every single piece was delicious without exception. I'll go through each one in detail below!

Here's the side dish that came together with it.

Japanese-style steamed egg custard, fried shrimp, and miso soup

The Japanese-style steamed egg custard came out, and it was really tastier than expected! And the fried shrimp had a crispy batter that wasn't soggy at all, so I could eat it without getting sick of it haha.

There was also miso soup on the side, which was great for a hot palate cleanser.

The 9 sushi pieces, one by one

The white fish sushi was clean and light. The fish itself had a subtle sweetness, and eating it with rice went down smoothly without feeling heavy. Especially the white fish on the left had a chewy texture — totally my type!!!!!

The salmon sushi had a soft, savory taste that I loved. The salmon and rice grains blended together softly in the mouth — that kind of feeling!

The soy-marinated shrimp sushi was salty yet sweet. The shrimp's plump texture came through, and the soy seasoning wasn't overdone.

The egg sushi was fluffy and sweet. The egg was soft, and eating it in between the fish sushi felt like a nice palate refresher.

A piece of handmade egg sushi

This one tasted like mackerel sushi to me. You could clearly taste the distinct savory flavor of mackerel. It was clean with no fishy aftertaste.

The tuna sushi had a clean, soft texture that stood out. As expected, a delicious red fish sushi!

Soba sushi set meal (summer-only menu)

I also tried the soba sushi set meal my boyfriend ordered.

Cold soba noodles in chilled broth

It comes with cold soba noodles in a chilled broth.

It also came with 4 pieces of sushi — egg sushi, flounder sushi, salmon sushi, and tuna sushi. If you're looking for a good meal near Hwajeong Station that's light for summer, the soba sushi set meal would be great! It's said to only be available during the summer season.

Three pieces of fried shrimp received as a Naver review perk

And since writing a Naver review gets you 3 pieces of fried shrimp, we grabbed those too! They were crispy and savory, so we enjoyed those as well haha. What we tried from the set menu turned out delicious too.

Final thoughts

Min Cook Dasima was a great place to enjoy sushi and a set meal together! If you're looking for a good meal near Hwajeong Station and want something filling, I'd recommend the sushi set meal. Not only was the sushi near Hwajeong Station good, but it came with fried shrimp and steamed egg custard too, making the overall meal quite satisfying haha.

Especially since there's a weekday lunch discount, I'd recommend a weekday lunch visit if your timing works out!! The address is 37 Hwasin-ro 260beon-gil, Deogyang-gu, Goyang-si, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea.
