New sushi set meal and thick pork cutlet at Min Cook Dasima, Goyang

I finally went back to Min Cook Dasima, a place I used to visit back in college. It made me weirdly happy to see the restaurant still in the same spot after all this time 😊 Old college memories came flooding back.

Min Cook Dasima store info and parking

📍 The address is 37 Hwasin-ro 260beon-gil, Deogyang-gu, Goyang-si, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea, Jinsol Plaza 2F, Unit 207.

⏰ Hours are daily 11:00–21:00, with break time from 15:00 to 16:50 and last order at 14:30 / 20:30. Regularly closed the 1st and 3rd Sunday of every month.

🚗 There's not much parking at the building itself, so use the Hwajeong E-mart parking lot instead. After your meal, tell the counter your car number and you'll get 1 hour of free parking. Past that it's ₩1,000 per 10 minutes, and it can be combined with an E-mart receipt. Just note that E-mart is closed on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month, which makes parking tricky, so plan ahead.

Finding your way from Hwajeong Station

Min Cook Dasima is about 200m from Exit 1 of Hwajeong Station. Since it had been so long since my college days, I actually got a bit lost 😅 The restaurant is in Unit 207 on the 2nd floor of Jinsol Plaza, and the entrance isn't immediately obvious from the main street even if you spot the sign.

Head into the building, take the elevator to the 2nd floor, and walk down the hallway. It's Jinsol Plaza 2F, Unit 207! Make sure you find the right store on that floor^^

The atmosphere and seating inside

Walking inside, bits of my college-era memories slowly came back. The whole place has a warm, cozy wood tone. There's a big window, so it doesn't feel stuffy at all, and you can see greenery outside while you eat, which made for a pleasant meal.

By the window there's a long counter seat that's comfortable for solo diners, and further inside there are tables ranging from 2-seaters to big tables for groups. It also seemed like a good spot for a family meal or a gathering 😊

It's an old restaurant, but the interior is kept clean, and the soft lighting made it even more relaxing.

A century-old business loved in Hwajeong for years

Min Cook Dasima opened in 2001 and has held its ground in Hwajeong for 25 years. According to the business, it was the first sushi restaurant in Goyang, and it was selected as a "Century-Old Store" in 2024. Just being able to revisit a restaurant I went to in college meant something to me.

Min Cook Dasima says their philosophy is that "good ingredients are the best chef." They use rice milled within 5 days and cook it right away with purified water. Beyond sushi and sashimi, the menu also includes pork cutlet, katsudon, Japanese-style rice bowls, udon, soba, and grilled fish.

What's in the new ₩31,000 sushi set meal special?

We ordered

two things: the sushi set meal special for ₩31,000 and the Korean pork sirloin cutlet. The sushi set meal special is a newly added menu item.

After ordering, the egg porridge came out first.

Starting the meal with warm, soft egg porridge felt gentle on the stomach and nice. A little while later, the sushi set meal special arrived, and it filled the table — such a generous spread.

There was a variety of sushi — salmon, tuna, white fish, egg — plus chunky rolls. Sashimi, fried shrimp, fried vegetables, braised fish, salad, pickles, and soup filled out the rest of the table. So many kinds and such pretty colors, it looked delicious just to look at.

The sushi melted in my mouth, and the balance between rice and fish was great. Once I ate one piece, my chopsticks naturally reached for the next 😊 The accompanying sashimi was thick too.

Being able to try salmon, tuna, and white fish all together made the set meal feel even more generous. The fried items were exactly to my taste.

The batter was crispy and the shrimp inside was moist and delicious. Eating it while still hot made the crunch even more noticeable. With sushi, sashimi, and fried items all in one meal, I'd recommend this to anyone who loves a big, generous spread.

How thick is the Korean pork sirloin cutlet?

The Korean pork sirloin cutlet also came out as a neat full spread. When I cut into the cutlet, the meat was really thick. Despite being thick, it wasn't dry at all, and the crispy batter on the outside made for great texture. It came with rice, soup, cabbage salad, and pickles, making for a filling meal.

The cutlet's thickness made it satisfying to eat, and it also seemed like a good dish to share with a kid.

Honest review

Revisiting a place I went to in college after so many years felt like more than just a meal. It was reassuring and lovely to see that, even after all this time, they're still serving delicious food in the same spot.

The new sushi set meal special was great for trying sushi, sashimi, and fried food all at once, and the Korean pork sirloin cutlet, with its thick meat and crispy batter, was exactly to my taste.
