Today I'm writing an honest review of Kkankkan Jjokbal Suwan Branch, a jokbal (pig's trotter) place I visited because I was craving jokbal after a while!! Yep... I've always liked this Kkankkan chain haha. So good!!!!!!😋😋😋

A Suwan jokbal restaurant with easy parking

Suwan has such a well-developed restaurant strip that there are tons of good places, but this is the first spot that comes to mind whenever I want jokbal. Great taste and easy parking!!! Isn't that priority number one haha.

When you drive to a restaurant in Suwan, parking is always the biggest worry. Here, there's plenty of parking space right on the sidewalk in front of the store, so pulling in was really easy. Being able to walk in without any parking stress is already a big plus.

What the dining room at Kkankkan Jjokbal Suwan Branch is like for groups watching baseball

Walking inside, the space was quite spacious and the tables were spaced out generously, so it never felt cramped. I love it when the tables have room between them..✨ Everything was kept clean overall, and the staff greeted us kindly, so I was in a good mood from the moment I walked in!!!!

There was a large screen on the wall showing a baseball broadcast⚾️ During baseball season, it's the perfect vibe for enjoying tasty jokbal with a drink while watching the game — I thought it'd also work well for a Suwan company dinner or a gathering with friends.

Once we sat down and ordered, the basic side dishes were neatly set out. From pickled radish to lettuce wraps to salad, every side dish was fresh and well-seasoned, so they were great to pick at while waiting for the jokbal👍

And here's the dish I really enjoyed — the sundubu jjigae (soft tofu stew). Complimentary soup dishes are usually thin or bland, but this one had a spicy, deep broth loaded with soft, fluffy tofu — seriously delicious..💛

Refills cost extra, and I ordered one anyway..🧡 That says it all, doesn't it..?🥹🥹🥹 Here's the menu — I had the cold jokbal today haha.

Free spicy bossam from the receipt review event

Partway through the meal I noticed a receipt review event and joined right away, and as a thank-you they brought out spicy bossam✨✨ Freebie side dishes are usually skimpy or thrown together, but this was so generous with thick-cut meat and plenty of sauce that it was hard to believe it was free!!! I was debating splitting the order half-spicy, but the free dish alone was more than satisfying 👍

The tender bossam pork had a faint char-grilled aroma under a spicy sauce, and the spice level was the kind of tasty spicy that went perfectly alternated with the cold jokbal!! If you like spicy food, I really recommend trying this spicy bossam menu too✨✨

Cold jokbal and mustard sauce: how it tasted

The main dish we ordered that day was the cold jokbal. When it gets a bit warm out, or when you're craving something sharp and clean, nothing beats cold jokbal. It came out on a big plate piled high with thinly sliced jokbal along with julienned cucumber, bell pepper, cabbage, and seasoned jellyfish✨

I drizzled on a good amount of mustard sauce, mixed it well, and took a bite — there was no trace of the gamey smell jokbal can sometimes have, and the chewy texture really came through.

Combined with the sharp mustard seasoning that gave a little tingle to the nose and the crunchy vegetables, I could eat it down to the last piece without ever feeling greasy. Living up to its reputation as a Suwan jokbal favorite, the meat quality itself was excellent👍

It's the kind of dish you think of when you're craving something sharp and clean, and it's especially perfect as a drinking snack!!!!! Regular jokbal is delicious too, but cold jokbal's punchy, savory flavor pairs really well with soju or a cold beer❣️

It was also great that we could wrap the cold jokbal in lettuce like this💚

From the generous parking to the friendly service to the pleasant atmosphere, this Suwan restaurant in Gwangju was satisfying all around. The tangy cold jokbal was excellently made, and the free sundubu jjigae left a strong impression, so I think I'll be back again soon🐥🐥
