My family truly loves sashimi, so we enjoy it often no matter the season. But whenever we planned a trip to a seafood market, I would wonder where to go—and I hated having my energy drained by haggling over prices—so I was always searching for a shop we could settle on.

But at last, I found a Garak Market Station sashimi restaurant that won over my whole family and where we can happily become regulars! My husband was so pleased when he realized it was a place he had visited for a work dinner with colleagues before. They even put cute name flags on the different cuts, which is totally on trend—this is Narae Susan (나래수산) at Garak Market.

Narae Susan is at Unit 48 on the first floor of Garak Mall's Sales Building, 932 Yangjae-daero, Songpa-gu, Seoul. It is 197 m from Exit 1 of Garak Market Station and directly connected to the subway station; the underground parking lot and elevators make getting around easy, and they provide a parking discount voucher too.

Take the escalator up from Exit 2 of Garak Market Station on Line 3, and the shop is right there as soon as you enter the first floor of Garak Mall, so it is really easy to find. Even if you bring a car, they make sure to give you a discount voucher, so there is no parking stress. :)

Narae Susan, run by a young couple, stood out from the very look of the takeout package! The sashimi we brought home had cute names for each cut, so it was fun knowing what we were eating. They slice the fresh live fish delivered daily nice and thick, and the moment it went into my mouth, that pleasantly chewy, springy texture filled it completely. Even my kids, who are sensitive to fishy flavors, ate it so well—the amount disappeared at an incredible speed. Haha.

Seasonal gizzard shad sashimi to enjoy right now

And then there was the seasonal gizzard shad sashimi, which you can enjoy only for a short time around now! We ordered ₩20,000 worth alongside it, and it had a wonderfully rich oiliness that became more and more nutty with every bite. It is a seasonal delicacy you cannot have at other times, so I strongly recommend adding it.

The owner even included fresh abalone sashimi as a complimentary extra! The sashimi portion was already so generous that I cooked the abalone with ingredients from home into a savory abalone porridge, and we made the most of it as a lovely dessert-like finish.

After picking up fresh sashimi at Garak Mall, I recommend an outing to Olympic Park or the Lotte World Tower area, both about 10 minutes away by car! Take a walk in the crisp park air or admire the Lotte Tower night view, then come home and raise a clean glass with freshly prepared sashimi—the perfect weekend reset is complete.
