Gongdeok izakaya that serves no soju, only Hwayo25: Orot Robata
In short
Orot Robata is an izakaya in Gongdeok, Mapo-gu, Seoul, about a 7-8 minute walk from Gongdeok Station Exit 1, and it has been listed in the Blue Ribbon Survey six years running. Orot Robata does not sell regular soju, so this visit paired a Hwayo25 and tonic set with assorted sashimi and ankimo (monkfish liver) brûlée with baguette, and on a fine day the room opens onto the outdoor space for an even better mood. Orot Robata is a good pick for a date or a special night out over a drink.

Today I'm sharing my review of Orot Robata, an izakaya with great atmosphere I found while looking around Gongdeok. It's not far from Gongdeok Station so it's easy to get to, and even the exterior gave off a pretty upscale vibe.
Where is Orot Robata, and what are its hours and parking?

An upscale izakaya near Gongdeok Station 🐟🍶
Orot Robata felt calm and upscale from the outside. It leaned more toward a proper dining space than a typical neighborhood izakaya, so it seemed like a good spot for a date or a special occasion. And right at the entrance, the Blue Ribbon sign caught my eye — apparently they've made the Blue Ribbon Survey six years running, so my expectations for the food went up naturally.

How long is the wait at Orot Robata? About 10 minutes
There was a wait when we arrived at Orot Robata. We left our contact info and waited, but it wasn't as long as I expected — we were seated after about 10 minutes. Seeing that there was a wait made it clear this place is already pretty well-known in Gongdeok.

The outdoor-facing space that shines on a fine day
Inside, there were both counter seats and table seats, and we were shown to a table. Maybe because the weather was nice that day, a space that's usually closed off seemed to be opened up. With that section connecting to the outside open, it felt less closed-in even while indoors, and I imagine visiting on a nice day would let you really enjoy that atmosphere.

From the counter seats you can watch the open kitchen and the cooking up close, so it seemed like it'd be fun to sit there next time.

No soju at Orot Robata, so a Hwayo25 and tonic instead 🍶🍋
Something I noticed while looking at the menu — they don't sell regular soju, haha. So that day we ordered the Hwayo25 + tonic set. Having Hwayo with tonic made it easy to drink without feeling heavy, and it paired well with the food.

What we ordered: assorted sashimi and ankimo brûlée
What we ordered that day was..!!

- Assorted sashimi
- Ankimo (monkfish liver) brûlée + baguette
Those two dishes.

The assorted sashimi platter 🐟
First up, the assorted sashimi! Being able to try several kinds of sashimi at once made it a great pick as a drinking snack.

I really like raw fish, so sashimi is something I often order at izakayas, and this time was no different — I tried each piece one by one alongside the Hwayo.

Ankimo brûlée, the surprise of the night 🥖
And the dish that stood out a bit was the ankimo brûlée + baguette. It's a dish that serves ankimo brûlée-style, so it felt quite different from a typical izakaya side dish.

We ate it by piling the ankimo onto the baguette, and the baguette had a subtle buttery aroma that made it savory and delicious. The combination of soft ankimo and baguette worked better than I expected, and I felt it was a good order for when you want something a bit different from the usual raw fish or grilled dishes.

Staff who stayed friendly right up to closing
Since we visited close to closing time, the staff were already starting to prep for closing by the time we finished eating. But they weren't cutting corners at all — they were cleaning very thoroughly. Seeing them tidy and clean up the whole place so diligently even that close to closing left a good impression about how well the place is managed.
The staff were also friendly overall, so from the wait, to being seated, to throughout the meal, everything went smoothly without any hassle.

Looking for a Gongdeok izakaya with great atmosphere?
Overall, Orot Robata was a Gongdeok izakaya where you can enjoy the atmosphere just as much as the food. It's close to Gongdeok Station so it's easy to find, and thanks to the upscale exterior and calm interior, it seemed like a great fit for a date, a blind date, or a drink on a special occasion.
On a nice day especially, the space connecting to the outside opens up for an even better atmosphere, and true to a spot that's made the Blue Ribbon Survey six years running, the menu has some dishes a bit more unusual than typical izakaya fare, which made it fun to pick and choose. If you're looking for an izakaya with great atmosphere in Gongdeok, I think it's worth a visit ☺️👍
