Guro Thai restaurant: two people order four dishes at Thai Du

In short

Thai Du Guro Digital Complex Branch is a Thai restaurant near Guro Digital Complex Station in Seoul. Two people ordered four dishes — tom yum rice noodle soup, pad thai, pak boong fai daeng, and som tam — to compare flavors, checking out the open kitchen, tableside kiosk ordering, and wood-tone interior along the way. The verdict: the tom yum rice noodle soup was the dish they kept coming back to.

Last time I ate Thai food, I felt like I really needed to go to Thailand. About a month later, the craving came back again... Thai Du, famous as a Guro Thai food spot!! I came for the tom yum rice noodle soup.

Clean exterior & interior design

Exterior of Thai Du Guro Digital Complex Branch

A Thai restaurant with a restaurant-quality look! Guro food spot Thai Du works for dates, lunch with coworkers, dinner with friends — a space that fits all kinds of occasions.

Wood-tone seating inside Thai Du
Interior of Thai Du with green lamps

The lighting is a key part of the interior — Thai Du's green lamps suit a Southeast Asian restaurant, and the overall wood-tone color gave it a comfortable feel!

Inside Thai Du with a view of the open kitchen

The kitchen is open, which raised my confidence in the food! The tables and staff inside were also very friendly.

Two people, four dishes, tableside kiosk ordering

These days a lot of places let you order from a kiosk right at your table, which is great for shy solo diners 😉 or for extreme introverts who feel a little awkward paying at the counter!

  • 💚 Som tam

After singing praises about Thai food since last week, we're finally eating it!

Tasting and rating the menu at Guro food spot Thai Du

Pickled onion and radish side dishes with Thai-style salad som tam

When you order, they give you pickled onions and radish. 👍🏻 Simple side dishes, but they go really well with Thai food.

Som tam

A Thai-style salad. The crunchy papaya texture combined with the sweet-and-sour sauce really wakes up the palate. There's a bit of spiciness throughout plus the salty umami of fish sauce — a great side to have between richer dishes!

A bowl of Thai Du's tom yum rice noodle soup

This was my first time trying pad thai, so I really searched for a good Guro spot!! But there really aren't many places that do Thai food well. Thai Du has a lot of reviews and a lot of menu options!! Ordering a bunch of different things to try was so much fun.

Tom yum rice noodle soup

The exotic flavor of lemongrass and spices is strong, but the broth is cleaner than I expected, and the rice noodles soak up the broth well, getting more addictive the more you eat. Tom yum rice noodle soup is definitely the kind of flavor that stays on your mind.

A plate of stir-fried morning glory, pak boong fai daeng

Pak boong fai daeng

The crunchy texture of the morning glory vegetable is still alive, and the smoky char combined with the salty sauce makes this a dish you keep reaching for. It goes well with rice too, and worked as a nice, easy side between the more intense main dishes.

Thai Du's pad thai topped with peanuts

Pad thai

The chewy noodles are coated in a moist, sweet-and-salty sauce, and the nuttiness of the peanuts adds to it — overall a very familiar and delicious combination.

Four Thai dishes ordered for two people, laid out on the table

Overall every dish was delicious, but I kept reaching for the tom yum rice noodle soup 🥹 It's the kind of soup at Guro food spot Thai Du that you want to keep eating no matter how much you've had!! Next time I should try the crab curry (pu pad pong curry)!!!

3 things that make Thai food appealing

Close-up of Thai Du's Thai food menu
  • (1) The sweet-and-sour flavors cut the richness. Compared to other foreign cuisines that tend to be heavy, Thai food often has strong sourness that keeps it from feeling greasy.
  • (2) Fragrant herbs and deep umami. Fish sauce and herbs are used to cook, giving the food layered aroma and flavor.
  • (3) A variety of salads and soups. The cooking methods suit Korean tastes well.
