Family lunch with kids and a salad bar at Oneul Haru in Cheongju
In short
Oneul Haru is a Korean home-style restaurant in Gyeongyang-dong, Cheongju, serving gondre (dried mountain vegetable) stone-pot rice sets. A family lunch there included grilled fish gondre stone-pot rice and gochujang bulgogi gondre stone-pot rice at 15,000 won each, plus a salad bar with tteokbokki and fried snacks the kids could help themselves to. Two dishes for 30,000 won made it an easy, filling family meal.

Sometimes you don't want anything spicy or heavy — you just want a clean, satisfying home-style meal. That's exactly what I was craving that day, so I went to Oneul Haru. From the moment I walked in, the space felt clean and warm, and I loved it right away.

The atmosphere at Oneul Haru
The wood-tone interior with soft lighting gave the whole place a relaxed feel — full of warmth, and really nice for eating with family. There's clearly a reason so many people come here for lunch in Gyeongyang-dong, Cheongju.

What we ordered, and the prices
Once we sat down, the first thing we did was order. We picked two dishes: grilled fish gondre (dried mountain vegetable) stone-pot rice at 15,000 won and gochujang bulgogi gondre stone-pot rice at 15,000 won. Ordering was easy through the tablet on the table, and the best part was that we could start hitting the salad bar right after ordering, even before the food arrived.

What's on the salad bar?
The salad bar made this lunch in Gyeongyang-dong, Cheongju even better. Honestly, it was one of my favorite things about Oneul Haru. You'd normally expect a home-style restaurant to just serve a main dish with a few side dishes, but here there's a whole self-serve bar with vegetables, various side dishes, tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes), and fried snacks — I loved it.

When you're eating with a kid, having tteokbokki and fried snacks — things kids love — right there makes life so much easier. My child spent a good while browsing the salad bar, picking things out and scooping them up personally.

Grilled fish gondre stone-pot rice
The hot stone-pot rice comes piled with gondre, and the subtle aroma of the greens made even plain rice taste nutty and clean.

Add in the grilled fish that comes alongside, and a whole bowl of rice disappears fast. Flaking off the fish and eating it with rice, along with a side dish here and there, really made me think — Koreans truly do run on rice.
There's seaweed soup too, which is great for feeding kids. And since it's stone-pot rice, you can finish with warm sungnyung (scorched rice tea) once the rice is done — a nice touch.
Gochujang bulgogi gondre stone-pot rice
The bulgogi stir-fried in gochujang sauce had a completely different charm from the grilled fish. The seasoned meat paired perfectly with rice, and it also went well with the clean flavor of the gondre stone-pot rice.

The gochujang bulgogi sauce was so good, I could have wiped my plate clean in no time.

Home-style side dishes that came with it
Braised potatoes, pickled vegetables, stir-fried anchovies, dongchimi (radish water kimchi) — the whole spread of home-style side dishes really made it feel like a home-cooked meal.

I wrapped the meat in lettuce, ate it with pickled vegetables, wrapped it in napa cabbage — no matter how I ate it, it was delicious.

Even just wrapped in seaweed, the gondre rice was seriously. so. good!! My kid finished a whole bowl of rice too. Personally, this is the kind of dish I'd go for whenever I really want to eat a proper bowl of rice.

Why this place works well with kids
Add the side dishes we picked up from the salad bar, and the whole table ended up looking quite full. At first I worried two dishes might not be enough, but with the salad bar to add to, it turned into a fun mix-and-match meal instead.
Especially with a kid along, being able to add tteokbokki and fried snacks on top of the main dishes is a real advantage. And this place's fried food is genuinely delicious — the fried enoki mushroom especially is amazing. Between the satisfying rice dishes and something the kid loves, this makes for a solid family outing spot.
Overall, the space was clean, the atmosphere relaxed, and the food was a good, filling meal. We tried the grilled fish gondre stone-pot rice and the gochujang bulgogi gondre stone-pot rice at Oneul Haru, and with the salad bar fully used, 30,000 won felt like a pretty satisfying meal.
If you're craving a clean home-style meal, or looking for a place to eat comfortably with a kid, I'd fully recommend Oneul Haru, a favorite lunch spot in Gyeongyang-dong, Cheongju.
