Sangsu izakaya with truffle pasta and tuna rare katsu: Midosawa
In short
Midosawa Hongdae Sangsu Branch is an izakaya in Mapo, Seoul, 102m from Exit 3 of Sangsu Station, serving sashimi, grilled meats and pasta. The Italian truffle pasta was mixed with the egg yolk and eaten in alternating bites with the tuna rare katsu dipped in wasabi. The truffle aroma was deep and the pasta thick and creamy, making Midosawa a place worth ordering the same two dishes again.

Drinks and complimentary side dishes at Midosawa

I ordered a zero-calorie cola, and it came in a Coca-Cola glass! So unique! It even had a bit of a wine-glass feel with the ice in it, which felt refreshingly different.

Cabbage came out as the basic side dish. Even the water cup is so pretty! Haha!

How to eat the Italian truffle pasta
I ordered the Italian truffle pasta and the tuna rare katsu.

On the black plate, there was so much truffle sliced thin enough to nearly cover the noodles!! Snowflake cheese and a slightly hidden egg yolk caught my eye.

For the truffle pasta, you pop the yolk with your chopsticks and mix it in well! Wow... the moment I mixed it, the truffle aroma rose up strongly.
I've really been loving truffle lately... such a thick, savory pasta flavor!!! Not greasy at all, just a deep, heavy richness.

Ah... I'm so happy... that combination of mushroom, garlic and sauce... This place is a pasta spot for sure! I feel like I'd order this again next time.

What the tuna rare katsu tastes like
Next up, the tuna rare katsu! There's tuna flesh inside the crispy fried coating! The tuna rare katsu came out in a good, bite-sized cut. It had a clear contrast between the crispy exterior and the soft tuna inside.

The coating had a nutty, savory flavor, and the tuna inside was soft and clean like sashimi. With wasabi, it stayed light and clean rather than greasy. Ha... kind of like gyukatsu (beef cutlet), but honestly even better! Totally my type ㅠ It's even better with that sesame sauce, haha!

I liked taking a bite of the truffle pasta and then following it with a piece of the wasabi-topped tuna rare katsu. If you order both dishes together, I'd recommend eating them this way too. Haha!

Is Midosawa Sangsu worth a visit?
Midosawa Hongdae Sangsu Branch, which I found while looking for a good place near Sangsu Station, had a wide range of dishes from sashimi to pasta, grilled items, and hot pot rice, making it easy to pick and choose several menu items. My Italian truffle pasta turned thick and creamy once the yolk was mixed in, and the truffle flavor came through strongly. Bits of mushroom and garlic throughout gave it good texture too. The tuna rare katsu had a crispy exterior and soft tuna inside, a great crispy-outside-tender-inside balance, and I'd recommend having it with wasabi. Ordering the pasta and tuna rare katsu together made for a great back-and-forth eating experience.
If you're looking for a place near Sangsu Station where you can enjoy pasta, sashimi and grilled dishes all together, this is worth a visit. In the evening there are also sashimi, grilled dishes and sake-steamed dishes, so it's a good spot for dinner with drinks. It would also suit anyone looking for a Sangsu-area izakaya or Japanese food. I'd love to eat the truffle pasta again next time. Haha.
