Suwon dessert café with Basque cheesecake and Summer Latte: Hongrad

In short

Hongrad Suwon Station Branch is a dessert café on the second floor of a building at the end of the Suwon Station Rodeo Street, toward the Suwon Tax Office in Suwon, Gyeonggi. Visiting with her sister, the writer ordered a Summer Latte for 6,500 won, an Americano for 5,000 won and a Basque cheesecake for 7,000 won, and the dense, creamy cake paired well with the slightly acidic beans. Hongrad Suwon Station Branch is worth a stop on a day when you want atmosphere, coffee and dessert all at once.

Where is Hongrad Suwon Station Branch?

Main image of Hongrad Suwon Station Branch café

If you're looking for a café near Suwon Station with good vibes that also stays open late, I want to recommend Hongrad Suwon Station Branch. You have to walk all the way from the end of the Suwon Station Rodeo Street toward the Suwon Tax Office, so it's the kind of place you have to go out of your way to find — but the atmosphere is good enough that you won't regret the trip!

How to find the second-floor entrance

Standing sign and smiley logo for Hongrad Suwon Station Branch on the 1st floor

It's on the 2nd floor, but there's a standing sign on the 1st floor and the smiley logo is quite visible, so you can't miss it! It's an old building so there's no elevator, but the stairs aren't steep so you get up quickly.

Inside Hongrad: retro interior and seating

Retro window seat with a view of trees

You could already feel the age of the building from the stairs up to this Suwon Station café, but the interior was even better — isn't that great? Especially this window seat, where you can see the green trees and it has a bit of a retro feel!

Sofa table seating near the café entrance

The entrance area looks like this — the sofa tables can be used by 3 or more people, up to a maximum of 5.

Hip seating area decorated with a full-length mirror and posters

Decorated with a full-length mirror and posters, this spot had a hip vibe. I kind of wanted to sit here, but since it was just the two of us, we just took photos and left it at that.

Self-bar and charger corner in front of the restroom

One thing I liked was that there's a restroom inside the café, so you can use it comfortably. In front of the restroom there's a self-bar where you can freely use water or tissues, and there's also a phone charger — use it if you need to!

Plush 2-person sofa table along the wall

Along the wall there are 2-person tables — the tables themselves are small, but the sofas are so plush that they're very comfortable to use. The whole space is a bit dim overall but with soft light coming in, so it seems fine to visit anytime.

Hongrad Suwon Station Branch menu and prices

Menu board listing coffee and desserts at Hongrad Suwon Station Branch

The menu at this Suwon Station café Hongrad had more variety than I expected — coffee, tea, and even non-coffee drinks. For dessert, there are types of toast, a croffle, brownie, and cheesecake! If I'd ordered based on my usual taste it would have been the croffle, but because of a certain weight issue these days, I decided in good conscience to get the cake that looked smaller (?) haha.

Pin badges made from photos of pets

If you write a review of this Suwon Station café Hongrad, they give you a cute pin badge, so I took part and got some cute ones 🫢 They seem to be made from photos of the dogs and cats the owner or staff keep as pets, and they were so, so cute that I wanted to collect them all.

Photo zone inside the café

And you can take photos at what looks like a photo zone too?

Prop-shop displays to browse at Hongrad

Café props arranged for browsing

Honestly the café itself was great, but I also loved the little corner decorated like a small prop shop that you can browse.

Buzzer with Wi-Fi and facility information written on it

The buzzer even has the Wi-Fi password and info about the restroom, self-bar, and charger written on it!

Basque cheesecake, Summer Latte and Americano: what we ordered

A cup of Summer Latte, ₩6,500

Summer Latte, ₩6,500, from Hongrad, a great-vibe café near Suwon Station — I figured the signature drink here would be either the Summer Latte or the Einspänner, so I ordered it, and the visuals alone were a pass!

A cup of Americano, ₩5,000

Americano, ₩5,000 — maybe because the beans had a slight acidity, it was extra clean to drink. This kind of clean americano is perfect when you're eating a sweet dessert!

A slice of Basque cheesecake, ₩7,000

Basque cheesecake, ₩7,000 — I went back and forth between the Ex-Boyfriend Toast and the Hongrad Toast, but figured I should order what my sister likes, so I got the dense, creamy Basque cheesecake.

Close-up of the sweet Summer Latte

Not the softness of soft-serve ice cream, but the Summer Latte was still nice and sweet to enjoy!

Cross-section of the dense Basque cheesecake

Can you tell it's not a dry, crumbly texture but a bit dense and creamy?

A forkful of Basque cheesecake
Cheesecake on the table with coffee

Honestly the cake itself wasn't that big, so after a few bites it was gone in no time. It was quite sweet, so one bite of cake and two or three sips of coffee and everything disappears haha.
