Eating alone at the bar: take it off the belt or order it direct

Teukbyeolhan Chobap has bar seating, which made it a good spot for eating alone. Even during weekday lunch hour, dining solo didn't feel awkward at all. Once you walk in, a variety of sushi keeps circling on the conveyor belt. If something in front of you looks good, just grab it — and if what you want isn't on the belt, you can order it from staff and have it made fresh.

I went alone that day and somehow ended up with a whopping 15 plates total. More than I expected, right? But picking up one dish after another that I wanted, the plates just kept piling up before I knew it.

The most memorable plates out of 15

Egg-shrimp-cheese and aged kimchi octopus sushi

The first thing I tried at Teukbyeolhan Chobap was the egg-shrimp-cheese sushi! It's a combo that's hard to mess up, and it was really soft and sweet — kids would probably love it too.

The aged kimchi (mukeunji) octopus had both the tangy flavor of the aged kimchi and the octopus's chewy texture together, which was a nice way to switch up the palate.

Tako wasabi gunkan and salmon sushi

My personal favorite, tako wasabi gunkan! It had just the right kick, and I enjoyed it a lot.

I naturally prefer sushi over rolls, so I ended up picking a lot of sushi that day too. I liked the slightly sharp, chewy tako wasabi, and of course couldn't skip salmon, which I always enjoy. The salmon sashimi had that signature umami and aroma I love, and being fresh raw fish, it even came with a nice big piece of salmon tail on top. Still, when it comes down to it, I prefer basic sushi topped with raw fish over rolls.

Beef tartare sushi and beef sushi

The beef tartare (yukhoe) sushi had insane umami!! If you go, you absolutely have to try it. It's genuinely delicious.

The beef sushi had a soft, tender texture, not tough at all.

Seasoned shrimp and freshwater eel steak sushi

The seasoned shrimp had a slightly spicy aroma, which was great to eat right when things started feeling a bit heavy.

There were also dishes like steak-style options and the freshwater eel steak, which were a bit different from typical fish sushi and nice to mix in for variety.

A conveyor belt at Teukbyeolhan Chobap that never runs empty

At Teukbyeolhan Chobap, the belt is always packed and moving, so even the moment of deciding what to eat next was fun. Usually at conveyor-belt sushi places the belt runs empty a lot, but maybe because this place regularly has a wait, the chefs kept making more nonstop.

Is Teukbyeolhan Chobap worth it for solo diners in Yeongtong?

Personally, I find conveyor-belt sushi places really convenient for solo lunches like this. There's no need to order one dish and wait around — you just watch the belt and pick up whatever you want, one at a time, which never felt awkward even alone.

Even though I ate 15 plates by myself that day (?), picking dish after dish I wanted made for a surprisingly satisfying lunch. If you're like me and prefer sushi over rolls, or if you want to try a little bit of many different things, this is worth a visit. If you're looking for a good sushi restaurant in Yeongtong, I recommend Teukbyeolhan Chobap :)
