Suwon Station café with American vintage decor: Hongrad brownie date

In short

Hongrad Suwon Station Branch is a black-and-white, American vintage-style café and dessert shop on Hyanggyo-ro, just behind the Suwon Tax Office in Suwon, Gyeonggi. On a late weekday afternoon, the writer and her husband left work early and ordered the Hongrad Brownie, a café latte and a Summer Latte, paying about 20,000 won for two coffees and one dessert. Hongrad Suwon Station Branch is cosier than the Yeongtong branch, but the decorative props are fun to browse and it makes an easy rest stop after shopping near Suwon Station.

Last Friday, my husband and I left work early and headed out to Suwon Station. We had errands at AK Plaza and Lotte Mall anyway, so while looking for a café to grab a coffee, we ended up at Hongrad Suwon Station Branch.

Last time I visited Hongrad's fifth branch in Yeongtong's central shopping district, but this time it was the third branch, at Suwon Station. Same brand, but each location has a slightly different mood, so I was curious what this one would feel like.

Where is Hongrad Suwon Station Branch, and how far is it from Suwon Station?

Hongrad Suwon Station Branch sits right behind the Suwon Tax Office. It's on the 2nd floor at 61-1 Hyanggyo-ro, a good spot for a quick coffee stop after visiting AK Plaza or Lotte Mall near Suwon Station.

Hongrad started with its first branch in Buksu-dong, Haenggung-dong, and now has several locations: the second at Hwaseomun in Haenggung-dong, this third one at Suwon Station, a fourth in Nahyeseok, Ingye-dong, and a fifth in central Yeongtong. Each branch has a slightly different concept and mood, so hunting down the different locations is part of the fun.

Walking in, the shop was cozier than I expected.

Compared to the Yeongtong branch I visited last time, which was fairly spacious, the Suwon Station branch definitely feels smaller.

Inside Hongrad Suwon Station Branch: black-and-white New York mood

Hongrad Suwon Station Branch is decorated mostly in black and white throughout.

It feels like stepping into a small café in New York. Hip, but not too cold — nicely done in an American vintage style.

Relaxed café seating on a quiet weekday late afternoon

Maybe because we visited late in the afternoon after leaving work early, it felt extra relaxing. Sitting in a café like this on a weekday afternoon made it feel almost like a weekend outing. It's a good spot to rest for a bit during a date.

Interior space arranged efficiently despite the small footprint

The shop isn't big, but the space feels well used. In particular, the cute little props placed here and there caught my eye.

They're all so much my style that even trying to just walk past, I ended up looking twice.

These small, charming props go so well with the New York-concept interior that browsing the shop was part of the fun.

It's smaller in scale than the Yeongtong branch, but the Suwon Station branch has a distinct personality of its own. The space itself feels calm, so it would suit not just a date but also coming alone for a cup of coffee.

What we ordered: Hongrad Brownie, café latte and Summer Latte

  • Hongrad Brownie
  • Café latte
  • Summer Latte

The first thing that caught my eye was the Hongrad Brownie. Even the name is cute, and the actual look was even cuter haha.

The Hongrad Brownie with a chocolate-syrup face drawn on top

They draw a face in chocolate syrup on top of the vanilla ice cream, and honestly, it was drawn pretty well. The kind of visual that makes you want to take a photo before anything else.

The sweet brownie paired with the cold vanilla ice cream made a great combination. Most of all, it was a menu item that just made me happy because it was so cute.

The café latte had genuinely good coffee. It had the smoothness you want from a latte without the coffee flavor getting buried, which I liked. I personally prefer strong coffee over something too mild, so this suited my taste well. The Summer Latte was also sweet and smooth, easy to drink.

How much does it cost, and is there parking?

I liked that the drink and dessert prices at Hongrad Suwon Station Branch weren't burdensome.

The ordering counter and menu display

Two coffees plus one dessert for two people came to about ₩20,000, which felt like solid value.

Unfortunately, there's no parking support. We had errands at Lotte Mall that day, so we parked there and walked over.

Hongrad Suwon Station Branch vs the Yeongtong branch

Where the Hongrad Yeongtong branch I visited last time felt spacious and comfortable, the Suwon Station branch packs a New York feel into a cozier space.

Between the black-and-white interior, the vintage props, and the comfortable sofa seats, there was plenty to look at and a nice place to rest as well.

If you're shopping near Suwon Station and looking for a café to take a break in, Hongrad Suwon Station Branch is a solid choice. That wraps up my visit to Hongrad branch number three, the Suwon Station location!
