Medium-spice braised ribs after work with self-fried rice: Gim
In short
Gim Myeongtae Spicy Braised Short Ribs Gasan Branch is a spicy braised ribs restaurant on a side street in Gasan-dong, Geumcheon, Seoul. Two diners ordered the medium spice level (about as spicy as Shin Ramyun), cooked the separately served glass noodles right in the pot, and finished with self-made fried rice. The ribs were tender rather than tough, and the fried rice was good enough that skipping it would have been a shame.

Today I want to introduce a Gasan-dong spot: Gim Myeongtae Spicy Braised Short Ribs Gasan Branch (김명태 매운갈비찜 가산점). I'd been craving something spicy and hearty for a while haha!! So right after work I started searching for spicy food in Gasan-dong and ended up here for the spicy braised ribs :)
I usually like braised ribs anyway, but that day I especially wanted spicy meat, so as a well-known spot for spicy braised ribs in Gasan-dong my expectations were even higher! Let me give you my honest review of Gim Myeongtae Spicy Braised Short Ribs Gasan Branch :)

Where is it in Gasan-dong

The restaurant is on a side street across from the Gasan-dong Community Center!

Menu lineup
Besides the spicy braised ribs I came for, there's also kimchi braised ribs, cheese braised ribs, and dried radish greens braised ribs, so you can pick according to your taste haha. Beyond braised ribs there's also braised pollock, plus a variety of meal options and seasonal menu items, so it seemed like a great spot for a group where everyone picks something different!

Atmosphere and seating
The interior was more spacious and comfortable than I expected! The tables were spaced generously, making it easy to eat comfortably, and the size of the place seemed good for group meals, company dinners, or gatherings. When I visited there were a lot of neighborhood locals too, so it felt like a Gasan-dong spot with a lot of longtime regulars, which raised my expectations even more haha.

We sat by the window that day! Sitting by the window meant we could eat comfortably without feeling cramped haha.

For basic side dishes we got pickled onion, mayo corn, pickled radish, and stir-fried fish cake, plus a warm bean sprout soup! With such a variety of sides it was great to pair with the braised ribs haha.

How spicy is the medium spice braised ribs
We ordered the medium spice level braised ribs (about as spicy as Shin Ramyun)!! For reference, the braised ribs have four spice levels total!
Mild → Medium (Shin Ramyun level) → Spicy → Very spicy
We went with a safe medium choice, and the moment the food arrived, it looked so appetizing haha. There was a generous pile of bean sprouts on top of the braised ribs! Braised ribs really do taste best with plenty of bean sprouts haha. We mixed it all up thoroughly so the seasoning coated even the bean sprouts, then dug in!

And even before eating I could tell the portion was way bigger than expected! Plenty of ribs and plenty of bean sprouts too, so it was more than enough for two haha.

The glass noodles come separately
The glass noodles that normally come included are served in a separate bowl here! If you put them into the braised ribs pot too early they get soggy, but since they came separately and we added them right before eating, they stayed chewy and delicious haha.

Now we put the delicious glass noodles that came separately into the braised ribs and simmered it again! Just simmer a bit longer so the spicy seasoning soaks into the noodles — just watching it made me want to eat right away haha.

We cut each rib with scissors to make them easier to eat!! Since they're bone-in ribs, cutting them into bite-sized pieces beforehand made things much easier haha. The bones can get in the way while eating, so I recommend cutting them with scissors first!
And of course, spicy braised ribs call for an ice-cold cola haha. They poured us a glass of cola too, and then we really got into eating!

How the glass noodles and ribs tasted
I tried the well-cooked glass noodles first!! The seasoning had soaked in so well that they were spicy and delicious haha. Maybe because I'm a glass noodle lover, I especially enjoyed them lol. The chewy noodles combined with the crunchy bean sprouts gave a great texture, and blended with the spicy seasoning it felt even richer!
And I tried the ribs too!! The meat was much more tender than expected haha. It wasn't tough at all and chewed easily, and paired with the spicy seasoning it really woke up my appetite and I kept reaching for more! If you like spicy braised ribs, I think you'll really enjoy this haha.
Self-fried rice at the end is a must
After enjoying the braised ribs haha, we immediately ordered the self-made fried rice! This place seems like somewhere the fried rice is a required course!! Fried rice cooked in the braised ribs seasoning can't possibly be bad haha. First they scoop out an appropriate amount of the braised ribs sauce to your taste, add the fried rice ingredients, and stir-fry it thoroughly! Just watching it sizzle already looks delicious haha.

Mixing the fried rice ingredients and seasoning together while frying makes for a really appetizing-looking fried rice haha. The seasoning soaks into the rice and the color turns appetizing too! After the braised ribs, finishing with fried rice was really satisfying haha.
I took a bite and wow, it was genuinely so good..!! haha. The braised ribs seasoning had soaked well into the rice, giving it a spicy yet deeply savory flavor! You really must eat the fried rice after the braised ribs!! Personally I think I would've really regretted it if I hadn't eaten it, it was that good haha. The braised ribs plus fried rice combo comes highly recommended!
Overall review
From the spicy braised ribs to the delicious fried rice, it was a truly satisfying and filling meal haha. The ribs were tender and there were plenty of bean sprouts and glass noodles, and above all the self-made fried rice at the end was so good that I really want to recommend it!! It's a great place to visit when you're craving something spicy or want a hearty dinner after work. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a Gasan-dong restaurant, or a spot in Dosan-dong or Gasan Digital Complex! Next time I'd like to try other kinds of braised ribs haha.
