Post-run breakfast at a Jamsil sandwich shop: Town Sandwich Jamsil

In short

Town Sandwich Jamsil Branch is a sandwich shop near Jamsil Station in Songpa, Seoul, that bakes its baguettes in-house and builds each sandwich after you order. Following a morning run to Jamsil, the writer ordered the best-selling basil jambon-beurre with extra tomato, added a chamomile tea, and asked for the sandwich cut in two. Crisp outside and fluffy inside, the bread made it genuinely good, not just hunger talking.

A Jamsil sandwich after a morning run: Town Sandwich Jamsil Branch

At Town Sandwich Jamsil Branch, a sandwich shop in Jamsil, I had the basil jambon-beurre with extra tomato. This was the day I finally acted on one of my long-standing romantic notions — 'go for a run, then have a simple coffee and sandwich.'

So I woke up a bit earlier than usual, and since the weather's gotten cooler lately, I ran all the way to Jamsil for a sandwich. And it was seriously insanely good... this is Town Sandwich, Jamsil branch.

Maybe because the area's full of offices, delivery orders kept pouring in even though lunchtime was still far off. I thought, oh, this might actually be a real local favorite.

Can you eat alone? Inside Town Sandwich Jamsil and its solo seats

The inside of Town Sandwich Jamsil Branch is super clean, and there's everything from regular tables to solo seats, so it seems totally fine to come alone to smash a sandwich. I only took photos of the solo-seat area though... there are 2-person tables too!! I forgot to photograph them, haha, oops.

What we ordered: basil jambon-beurre with extra tomato and chamomile tea

Town Sandwich makes its sandwiches with baguette as the base, and there's quite a variety of sandwiches, plus soups and drinks. Buying a set menu gets you a bit of a discount. Everything looked so good I fell into a massive dilemma before landing on the best-selling basil jambon-beurre with extra tomato! For a drink, I picked chamomile.

While sitting at the table waiting, I spotted a receipt event too~ if you like iced tea, give it a try~~

Choosing how it is cut and how fast the sandwich arrives

It came out way faster than I expected! With delivery orders constantly coming in, I thought it'd take a while, but it came out quick and I was thrilled. You can also choose how it's cut when ordering, so I picked 2-cut! It came out neatly sliced like this.

So much rocket and ham packed into the basil butter!!! Plus the tomato I added. I was legendarily hungry at that point, and I basically started drooling the second I saw it. The filling was seriously stuffed to bursting.

How is the baguette at Town Sandwich Jamsil?

I picked one up and the bread was incredibly soft and fluffy...! Like, can bread even be this fluffy? Apparently they bake the baguettes in-house and make the sandwiches fresh right after you order. Freshly made sandwiches aren't always guaranteed to taste great, but the moment I picked this one up, my inner pig-instinct went off like 'this is going to be seriously delicious.'

Fluffy baguette sandwich held in hand

And then I took a bite... basil-scented butter + slightly bitter rocket + refreshing tomato, the combo was seriously killer... but honestly, the bread here is just insanely good. This isn't the kind of tough, jaw-breaking baguette you might expect — no, no, no. Crisp on the outside, moist and fluffy on the inside, absolute legendary heavenly texture. Personally I'm not a fan of bread that shreds up the roof of your mouth, but I'm also a crunch enthusiast, and Town Sandwich's bread hit that perfect balance.

Seriously so, so, so good. The ingredients being fresh is great too, but I'm someone who believes that if the bread is good, a sandwich has basically already won, and this bread completely won me over... honestly it was better than the sandwiches I had in France. Of course, this is just the personal impression of a hungry pig who'd just gone for a run, but then again, do I really run and eat like this every day? And honestly I didn't even run 2km... so it's not just hunger being the seasoning, it was genuinely delicious.

What to try next and when Town Sandwich Jamsil is worth a visit

I saw they have bánh mì too, and the moment I was eating this sandwich, I thought 'oh, their bánh mì is probably ridiculously good too.' Next time, bánh mì for sure...

  • Great to come to after a run in this cool weather
  • Would also be great to take out for a picnic at Seokchon Lake or Olympic Park
  • Perfect for Jamsil office workers worn out from work

Get a sandwich at Town Sandwich Jamsil Branch and power up... seriously, trust me and just try it once. It's insanely, insanely good.
