Jungmun BBQ restaurant: marinated galbi 700g and naengmyeon, Oreumak
In short
Oreumak Garden Jungmun Main Branch is a long-running Korean BBQ restaurant on Daepo-jungang-ro in Jungmun, Seogwipo, Jeju. Instead of black pork, this visit meant two servings of sweet marinated ribs (yangnyeom galbi), 350g each for 700g total, grilled at the table and finished with a bowl of cold water naengmyeon (buckwheat noodle soup). The sweet-salty galbi and the icy noodles closed out the meal exactly right.

When you visit Jeju, black pork is great and all, but sometimes you just really crave sweet marinated ribs, haha. This time, while looking for dinner around Jungmun, I went to Oreumak Garden Jungmun Main Branch, a place that's apparently been a longtime local favorite too :)

Rather than a place that only tourists go to, I wanted to try a Korean BBQ restaurant that's been around in Jeju for a long time — and it turns out this one has held its spot for quite a while.

Which made me even more curious about this Seogwipo local favorite, Oreumak Garden Jungmun Main Branch!

How much meat is 700g of marinated galbi for two?
What we ordered at Oreumak Garden Jungmun Main Branch this time was marinated ribs (yangnyeom galbi), 350g per serving! Since one order is 350g, ordering two gave us a total of 700g — a pretty hearty amount.

The moment it hit the grill, that distinctive sweet, salty smell of marinated ribs came rushing up — and honestly, that smell is impossible to resist, haha.

What does Oreumak Garden's marinated galbi taste like?
The marinated ribs at Oreumak Garden Jungmun Main Branch weren't overpoweringly heavy on the seasoning — instead, the marinade soaked into the meat just right, making it easy to keep eating. Once properly grilled, the outside had that slightly caramelized sweet-and-salty flavor, while the inside stayed tender — a taste that both kids and adults could easily enjoy!

Personally, with marinated ribs I sometimes get tired after a few bites if the marinade is good but the meat itself isn't — but here the meat itself was solid, so I enjoyed it all the way through.

Eating it, I could see why some people seek this out as a Seogwipo local favorite. It's great with the basic side dishes, or wrapped in lettuce with a piece of rib for a big bite — the kind of flavor that just makes you crave rice, haha.
Finishing with cold water naengmyeon, a rib on top
After the meat, you've got to finish with naengmyeon (cold buckwheat noodles)! At Oreumak Garden Jungmun Main Branch, we ordered water naengmyeon instead of the spicy bibim version.

After eating plenty of marinated ribs, a bit of sweetness can linger in your mouth — that's when a bowl of cold water naengmyeon completely resets your palate. I'd also recommend taking a sip of the cold broth first, then eating the noodles together with a piece of rib!
Rather than just eating the naengmyeon plain, topping it with a piece of marinated rib made the sweet-salty ribs and cool noodles pair really well together. Personally, the marinated ribs were delicious that day, but it was really the water naengmyeon at the end that made me feel like I'd had a proper full meal, haha.
The Jungmun BBQ restaurant also known for dry-aged pork
Oreumak Garden Jungmun Main Branch is known not just for Jeju pork but also for its dry-aged menu items, apparently.

According to recent info about the place, it's a Korean BBQ restaurant that's been operating for a long time and has consistently made the Blue Ribbon list, so it's worth a visit if you're looking for somewhere to eat meat in Jungmun. If, like us, you're craving sweet marinated ribs more than black pork, order the 350g ribs and eat heartily,

and finish it off with a cool bowl of water naengmyeon :)
If you're looking for a long-running Korean BBQ restaurant near the Jungmun tourist area that doesn't feel too touristy, or a Seogwipo local favorite, Oreumak Garden Jungmun Main Branch is well worth a stop!
