Why we picked Jejju Donghong Branch in Seogwipo for a takeout dinner

After a full day of eating out morning and night, we were trying to figure out what to eat back at the hotel and settled on Jejju Donghong Branch. Locals apparently rave about it as a good-value bento spot. It's kind of like a premium version of the Hansot bento we used to eat all the time back home, haha. It's close to our hotel too, so we walked over as a bit of a stroll. It's a bento specialty shop, but even from outside you could tell the place was pretty big.

Parking and what the Jejju Donghong shop looks like

Parking behind the building is super easy. You can eat in the shop, but honestly this seems perfect for packing a bento to eat somewhere with a nice view while traveling around Jeju. If the lot fills up, there's a public parking lot right across the street too, so parking is basically a non-issue.

I was surprised at how big the dining hall was — bigger than I expected. The interior is clean too, and it looked like a good spot whether you're eating solo or with friends. The staff were friendly overall, and even though this was a sponsored visit, they treated us really well. I've experienced plenty of places that get openly awkward once they know it's sponsored. Anyway, we happily ordered what we wanted.

The kitchen is open, so you can watch the octopus get its smoky sear or just watch the cooking happen in general. They seem to do a lot of delivery too, but everything looked so clean and hygienic that it was reassuring. I admit I have some preconceptions about takeout/delivery-only places, but Jejju Donghong Branch had none of those issues.

The "Good Price Shop" certificate and the 3-piece sushi poster

Near the counter there's a 'Good Price Shop' certificate. This is an official recognition given only to places in Jeju that offer food at genuinely affordable prices. Since I come down here often, I've visited a lot of these certified spots, and most of them turn out to serve pretty good food too. If you're planning a trip, try searching 'Jeju good price shop' on Naver — there's a page run by the provincial government.

While waiting for our order, a poster on the wall caught my eye, so I snapped a photo. You can apparently get 3 pieces of sushi at a really low price here — affordable enough for students to grab without hesitation. Maybe that explains why there were quite a few students around...

What comes in the Jejju bento plus raw shrimp sushi 10p

Here's what we ordered: the Jejju bento and 10 pieces of raw shrimp sushi. The bento comes in several set combinations, and since I was adding sushi separately, I went with the Jejju set, which has a smaller amount of sushi included. It comes with octopus, fried shrimp, fish cutlet, 2 pieces of raw shrimp sushi, and 3 pieces of salmon sushi — a nice variety to try a little of everything.

There were 3 side dishes along with onion slices for the salmon sushi. The plastic container on top holds soup. The whole thing is packed generously, so it seems like a solid option for group bento orders in Seogwipo. With fried items, sushi, and Korean side dishes all included, it seems like something almost anyone would enjoy.

How it tasted back at the room: smoky baby octopus and sweet sauce

Digging in right after getting back to the hotel... the octopus had a really impressive smoky char, and the seasoning was just right — honestly a pretty high-quality bite for what's essentially a takeout bento. The sweet sauce drizzled over the fried shrimp and fish cutlet really stuck with me, it paired so well with the fried texture. That said, I think it'd taste about twice as good with a beer or a soda on the side. I've been dealing with some stomach issues lately, so I just had it with plain water...

The salmon sushi and raw shrimp sushi were solid too. If I were doing a month-long stay in Jeju, this would be perfect to bring along with a tent set up somewhere scenic. It also worked great as a simple hotel-room dinner, and above all, the portion-to-price ratio was excellent. If you're looking for a takeout meal in Seogwipo, definitely give this place a try.
